The American Workplace....?

After working "out there" for a number of years, and finding myself working for another "funky" company, it causes me to wonder about the American workplace, and about where we're headed as a nation. I went from a greedy company just recently, a mortgage company, to a company that lacks wisdom and basic integrity towards people, a heating and air conditioning company.

Both companies are "burning" people and burning their bridges as far as clients, so that their futures are not secure. You wonder what they are thinking.

When I was at the mortgage company, I was supposed to call past clients seeking to do business with them again, and came across many who had been burned by the company and slammed the phone down on me. I got the feeling that the loan officers were greedily attempting to get people to refinance in a way that would make money for them, but would put the homeowner in worse debt and a worse position financially.

At the heating and air conditioning company, since telemarketing is no longer paying off, customers are more scarce yet the company is being careless with the customers they get. Consultants who go out to people's homes to assess the need for a new furnace will blow off an appointment for a golf game. I have been put in a position where I am supposed to call the potential client to explain why the consultant can't make it. I have come to realize that the company lacks wisdom and integrity, and find it hard to work for them. I am weary of looking for a company that has these qualities.

The last time a consultant called in to say he couldn't make an appointment because of a golf game, he said it was "for his church." This is another problem. So many people who are unethical or foolish in the American workplace are Christians.

The heating and air conditioning company also just fired a young woman who was the only young person working there. They have some funky liking for older people, it seems. They have this 74 year old retiree working for them, who clocks in and sits and talks and eats from his lunch box, and does all sorts of things besides work during his 7 hour day.

They allow this for those they like. But for this young one, they let her go because she wasn't "producing" within the first couple of weeks. They clearly discriminated against her, yet there are no laws to protect her against getting fired. She was let go by one lady who has all the power, a lady who clearly favors the elderly. It's a funky company that pays people not to work. There's another telemarketer, a lady in her 70's who hardly produces, but continues on there and gets paid.

I came in there from another telemarketing job and produced big-time, so I don't have to worry about why they kept me on. Then they made me a supervisor, with limited power.

The reason Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and all the other terrorists are so confident when they condemn us and plot against us is that they sit there and watch our demise. They see that our day is coming. They see that we are rotting out from the inside. They see our corruption, and that are "Karma" is coming. I'm sorry, but that's the way it looks to me, and I don't see how we can avoid it because Americans proudly defy the truth. If only Americans would turn and repent and humble themselves. If only Christians would humble themselves and seek God's face, and turn from their wicked ways. Then the evil that is brewing would be averted.

Can anyone think of an analogy? The terrorists look at us as a group and see that we are weakening on the inside and wait for the opportunity to attack, to take advantage? Is there an analogy in the animal kingdom?

Kelly Clarkson Breakaway Lyrics

breakaway by kelly clarkson

Ignorance Truly IS Bliss

I've been ignoring all the major news sites for a while now, and have been closing my ears to current events, even when I go to the internet. I was going to the blog Gateway Pundit a lot, but haven't been there in a good while since he is into hardcore reality, preferring nonsense or the musings of complicated minds instead.

Who wouldn't(?), is what I think! I just go through these phases of childlikeness, it seems, where I can't take any more. The truth breaks my heart. I can't take all the Hollywood gossip nonsense either. I feel guilty not knowing what's going on, but it soothes the brain. And I've been busy too, by the way, if anyone wonders. My blogging suffers when I'm busy, but also when I get bored of the internet and blogging. I am looking to do something other than get on the internet these days. I need to break away, like that Kelly Clarkson song.

My Communion Prayer

Note: In praying this, if you can't think of a sin, just put the word "anything" in the blank. God will show you something if there is anything. If He doesn't show you anything, don't dig, don't get introspective. Just go on. If He does show you something, helplessly leave that sin at the feet of His mercy and don't try to change it yourself. Let Him change it. Also, don't worry about what you need to be healed of. You don't need to say it. God knows, and you only need to be thinking of it.

Prayer: Father in heaven, I examine myself today to see if there is anything in me that is displeasing to You. In Jesus name I ask You to forgive me for _______, and to release me from the power of this sin. I break the hold of my judgment against anyone who has hurt me and allow him or her to go free of me. I ask you to forgive me for any part I had in causing this and to cleanse me.

And now we will repeat the words of Jesus as He broke bread with His disciples:

Take, eat, this is my body, like the body of the Lamb eaten by Israel, broken for you to bear your sins, so you may die to sin and live to righteousness. This body heals you of the results of sin, and heals the body. Do this in remembrance of me.

Drink, for this is my blood of the new covenant, not the old covenant of the blood of animals, but the new covenant of the blood of the eternal Lamb of God. This was shed for you to pardon sin, to release you from sin. This blood sets you free from the destruction that sin has caused, and heals the soul. Do this in remembrance of me.

A Miracle of Healing

I am so excited. I can report a true miracle of healing! I was coming down with the flu, and God intervened and I was healed.

A lady at work got the flu and came to work when she was at the beginning of it, then disappeared for about a week while she was sick. I thought, "oh brother, she was sick, now she spread her germs!" And sure enough, I started to feel the symptoms. I woke up with a sore throat yesterday morning, and I was starting to get dizzy and weak. Last night, I felt too weak to go out and bike like I usually do. And when I start to get the flu and not just a cold, I am in for the duration! It can be bad. And this appeared to be a bad virus!

I resorted to taking Communion using my Communion prayer, in desperation. I was due to go in to work this morning, and I am at the last week of summer school, with an imovie project to finish and a test in just a few days. The timing on getting sick couldn't be worse!

The reason for taking Communion is that this is how we appropriate Christ's work on the cross. Communion is amazing and profound and often something done quickly and without much thought. All the healing and forgiveness and bondage breaking Jesus offered is in Communion.

I have written a prayer or confession to accompany Communion and said this while eating the bread and drinking the juice. I struggled with weak faith, knowing my faith was imperfect and wondered if it would be too imperfect to get me the healing I was seeking. Read Roseuvsharon's post on weak faith.

I took Communion again later in the day, concentrating even more carefully on the words which focus on the redemption by Jesus' blood and that healing takes away the damaging results of sin. I am a captive of sin, but Jesus, in His mercy releases me from its power. I am willing to be separated from all sin. Healing involves being willing to deal with any and all sin.

I went to bed feeling very funny. My head was so dizzy, I almost felt delusional. I had very little faith. I wondered if I was going to wake up feeling truly sick, but I was hoping.

I had some wonderful dreams. I had some fun dreams, like I was in Hollywood and I was getting an extreme cosmetic makeover. I woke up feeling absolutely refreshed and wonderful. My mind was more clear than ever. It was a miracle.

I was two hours ahead of when I needed to be at work. I felt no lethargy or depression, or my usual morning drag, since I am not a morning person. I got up and pranced up to the kitchen to announce to my mom that I was OK. Miracle! God does these things. See my next post for my communion prayer.

You've got to get a hold of the power of Communion! It is profound and it's for you. The reason for doing it alone at home is because then you can say the prayer and concentrate on it slowly, and not just go through some motions quickly as is done so often in churches. The revelation about what communion is and does is just not with us...yet, much. I hope you realize what I am thinking. If I can get healed of the flu, think of what else I can get healed of! (See my post before last.)

You might be a redneck if...

A little rain doesn't spoil the fishing...

You carry your front porch with you...

You need fashion tips from your husband...

This guy looks a little Kingdavidish to me!

You wear a shirt like this for your engagement picture...
(and your fiancé looks like she is 12)

Your wedding picture looked like this.

And your wedding cake looked like this...

Your mailbox looks like this...

Your doghouse looks like this...

Your pickup looks like this...

You have a deer's butt for a door bell...

You don't need a lake to do a little skiing...

Or if your wife is quoted in the local paper saying...

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved package, but to skid across the line broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out, leaking oil, shouting: "GERONIMO!"

God Speaks to Me

When I open the bible, I don’t read it like any other book. The bible is “living and active” and God uses it to speak to me each day – directly.

There is a passage that God has used to remind me of His miracles and of miracles that are in my future: 2 Samuel 22, particularly verse 34, and Psalm 18, particularly verse 33. “He makes my feet like the feet of deer and sets me on my high places.”

I had a terrible car accident that took a joint out of my foot. It was the direct result of being delusional while in a manic-depressive episode between 8 and 9 years ago. The passages both refer to the feet of deer, and always reminds me of my feet, so they speak to me of God’s promise to restore my feet. Since deer feet have lots of bone, “making my feet like the feet of deer” means adding bone to my foot.

Yes, I am talking about a re-creative miracle.

Right after I had my accident, I met a woman who had also had a freak accident involving her foot. She had gone to a faith healer – the same one I went to – and had been completely restored. Her leg and foot were all shriveled and the bones were fusing together, but she woke up one morning and it was all restored. She got up to get her cane but realized she didn’t need it. I felt that this was a sign for me to believe.

The accident came as a result of being manic-depressive – the source of the problem. In general, when I read this passage, it reminds me that God wants to restore my feet but he also wants to restore my mind.

How do I know that this is what the passage means? The Holy Spirit has spoken that to me.

God causes me to turn to these passages all the time, and at the most synchronous moments – amazing! He even slips this passage in when I least expect it. I was in church the other day and the scripture reading for the day was from Habakkuk and the theme was on being thankful. It starts out by saying that though no “fruit be on the vine” and there be “no herd in the stalls” “yet I will rejoice in the Lord” and it goes on to say: ”The Lord God is my strength. He will make my feel like deer’s feet, and He will make me walk on my high hills.”

There it was again! God is always reminding me of this passage, which is His promise. Reading the bible is not just reading stories, or dryly reading commands or reading portions of “Holy Scripture” each day to fulfill some obligation. It is God speaking to me.

I open the book, and not always the first thing I open to, but after I flip through a time or two, I come to something that I know is Him speaking to me. The 2nd Samuel passage, and the Psalm 18 passage are not bookmarked, yet I flip to them almost right away, and wonder at that. I always find other scriptures that God wants me to read as well.

I've been to bible school, I was raised in the church, I've been in bible study after bible study, I've read large portions of The Word and I know The Word. So when I come to passages I am already familiar with the context and the portions of scripture they belong to. I just need to be reminded of the themes I have already learned.

God wants our bible reading to be part of a relationship, to be exciting. He can guide us through it in a living and vital way.

Don’t just read the bible like a book, or let other people tell you how you should read it. Let the Holy Spirit make reading the bible as exciting and as comforting as He has made it for me.

More Proof That Cats Are Smart

Oscar the cat seems to have an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, by curling up next to them during their final hours.

His accuracy, observed in 25 cases, has led the staff to call family members once he has chosen someone. It usually means they have less than four hours to live.

Read story here.

This makes me think of how smart cats are, and how sweet too, cuddling up next to a dying person. I can just imagine that, from my experience with cats, that a cat would feel sympathy for the ailment of an ailing body and seek to bring comfort and health. They are divine.

Can you imagine being a woman in jail, and someone asks you: "what are you in for?" "I kissed a white painting with lipstick on." Wow. With modern art the way it is, she could be doing the artist a favor, or, it could just go unnoticed, since he uses graffiti in his art. Read the story here.

Blogging Pays Off

James Lileks at the tail end of the evening, puffing

The Minnesota Bloggers just got together Saturday night and it was fun. I stole these pics from Kingdavid, because I didn't bring my camera. The pic above is of Reverend mother, Nightwriter's wife, and Mall Diva, his daughter, and Ben (Hammerswing 75). Rev. mother and Mall Diva left funny comments on a post about Iran's Mahmoud back a few months ago. All our hard work blogging finally culminates in meeting the friends we've made on the internet. Actually, we've met before, but it was fun meeting again.

Here's kingdavid, and a shot of the outdoor garden where our soiree was held.

Here is Ben (Hammerswing75) Kingdavid(The Far Wright) and me! Ben and Kingdavid's sites are the ones I frequent the most. Oh boy, I've got the heavies on me! Which reminds me. I'm not exactly free from fat, but my blog name I'm Free Now is somewhat prophetic and not yet true. When i started my blog, Go Free Now I was getting totally free in every area, and wanted to name it Free At Last, but that was taken. I'm Free Now is the next best thing. When I started a new blog I picked I'm Free Now. Since the whole starting of a blog, my life has taken some turns. You could say I took three steps forward and then one step backward. So, I'm still getting free, but prophetically I am free now!

I got to meet Dan S. at the soiree who comments on Kingdavid's site, but missed seeing Bike Bubba who is a local who shows up at Kingdavid's, Ben's and my site. Ben just reminded me that we stayed after some of the others left and sat at table with James Lileks and a couple others to talk. Ben got into a heavy discussion with those guys and I just listened. To all you bloggers outside Minnesota - wish you could've been here!

One thing I can tell you. Not only is Ben photogenic. He is personality plus!

The Power Of The Tongue

This is one of those essays of mine, only it's really just a study in God's word on the power of our words. Bill, this one I had pretty much finished! Appropriate for tonight when a bunch of us MOBsters(Minnesota Organization Of Bloggers) will be meeting and chatting away, and our words can and will be used against us. I'm a little nervous about this. I enjoy my anonymity on the internet and meeting in person is a lot more intimate. Besides, I haven't shed those extra pounds. Oh well. Here's the essay.

Let The Word Of God Speak For Itself:

James 1: 26
If anyone among you thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless.

3: 2-8
For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.
Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body.
Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.

Even so, the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles our whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire by hell.
For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

Isaiah 34:16 Search from the book of the Lord and read: not one of these shall fail, not one shall lack her mate. For my mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them.

Proverbs 10: 11,13, 14
The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding...
Wise people store up knowledge, but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

vs.19-21 In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise.
The tongue of the righteous is choice silver.
The lips of the righteous feed many.

Proverbs 11:9
The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor.

Proverbs 12: 6
...the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
vs.13, 14 The wicked is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, but the righteous will come through trouble.
A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth.
vs 18 The tongue of the wise is health.
vs 25 Anxiety in the heart of a man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad.

Proverbs 14:3
...the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

Proverbs 15:4
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
vs 30 The light of the eyes rejoices the heart and a good report makes the bones healthy.

Proverbs 16:24
Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.
27An ungodly man digs up evil, and it is on his lips like a burning fire.
28 A perverse man sows strife, and a whisperer separates the best of friends.

Proverbs 18: 7 A fools' mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
vs 20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth, and with the increase of his lips he shall be filled.
vs 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles.

Proverbs 25: 11
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.

Ecclesiastes 10:20
Do not curse the king, even in your thought; do not curse the rich, even in your bedroom; for a bird of the air may carry your voice, and a bird in flight may tell the matter.

Mark 11: 23
For assuredly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'be removed and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have what he says.

John 1:1-4
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life.......
vs. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

John 15: 7
If you abide in Me, and my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire and it shall be done for you.

Revelation 12: 11
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.

Laughing At Myself!

I was going back to my earliest posts on my old blog Go Free Now! and found one called Intro and Directory where I'm talking about all the essays I've written to share with anyone who would like one. I say that if you would like one, just let me know and I'll e-mail it. Now some of those essays have been posted on my blog, such as "Why Do I Extol The Jew?" or "Ismail" but looking over the ones I haven't posted, I realize with horror that most of the others aren't even finished. I have neglected to flesh them out.

I did an essay on gardening, on the parallels the gardener finds between the world of the garden and life, such as: weeds appear with no effort. They grow freely and appear easily, just as evil is always so attainable and available. But in that essay, all I have written is: "weeds appear with no effort, they grow freely and appear easily" and I have nothing written about what the parallel with life would be.

I have an essay on "The Alchemy of Music" about taking secular music and turning it into worship, and I never realized I hadn't completed that until I looked at it the other day.

I have another essay on affliction and it ends after the words: "But what if Satan has attacked and we have experienced great loss? There we are, already sick, already down, already nearly destroyed." I end it with a question I haven't even answered.

A man was visiting my blog early on when I got started, from the United Arab Emirates, who asked for my essay called "Ismail," a Christian witness to Muslims. I didn't realize until after I sent that to him that it hadn't been edited properly, and hoped I hadn't messed him up. You just pray a lot after that.

I wrote a post early in my first blog about getting right with God, and who goes to heaven or hell, touching on the heavy subjects like predestination, but hardly addressing them thoroughly. After reading it again I deleted it and prayed I didn't lead anyone astray with that post!

So I find out that I have hardly even done what I set out to do when I started this blog, which was to write wonderful essays that would profoundly impact people. I am hardly the writer I thought I was. I think that Kingdavid has taught me to to enjoy being myself more, which is being a lover of nonsense, and finding that occasionally I can also say something profound.

A Miracle Of Sleep

Here is another miracle I ought to report. I had terrible insomnia after 9/11. I didn't sleep almost for 6 months - I know it sounds impossible but a human is capable of having a lot of insomnia before anything really bad happens. I was hospitalized and put on drugs. 9/11 had a terrible effect on me.

I later went to the Word of God. My cousin's wife talked about a missionary friend who went to the Word and read it when he couldn't sleep. I did the same. I highlighted scriptures on sleep. I put the words 'sleep' and 'rest' above those passages in my bible so I could find them easily as I flipped through my bible each night.

Psalm 3:5,6
I lay down and
I awoke, for the Lord sustained me.
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.

Psalm 4:8
I will both lie down in peace and
sleep, for You alone O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Psalm 116:7
Return to your
rest, O my soul, for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.

Psalm 127: 1,2
Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved

Proverbs 3:24
When you lie down you will not be afraid. Yes, you will lie down and your
sleep will be sweet.

Isaiah 57: 2
He shall enter into
peace. They shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.

Jeremiah 31: 25,26
“For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.” After this I awoke and looked around and my
sleep was sweet to me.

Matthew 11: 28-30
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you
rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

These are most of them.

Today, I sleep like a baby, without sleep medication. I've had good sleep for a couple of years now. I read the bible every night and every morning, flipping through my bible, looking for whatever stands out.

I slept right through menopause - hardly noticed it was happening to me until later I realized, "oh, that must have been it." You're supposed to have sleep problems because of it - night sweats and insomnia, but not me.

I used to have trouble sleeping at different people's houses, needing to be in my own bed, but since this miracle have slept in countless places not my own, including campgrounds in a tent, and now sleep at my parents' which I used to not be able to.

God does these things.
