I'm in her study on Breaking Free and we came to the chapter dealing with Prejudice. She says that the church has more prejudice than anywhere else, just what Penny said. Ugh! I don't know why. It's one of those things that should not be, but is.
Beth Moore said that she has had abuse in her past and it helped when people came up to her and said they were so sorry for what happened in her past. She suggested that we do the same for people who have been wronged, such as black people. Since the 'sins of the fathers are visited on the third and fourth generations,' it could be that the sins of the slave owners have come down to us, collectively, since many of us don't have slave owners in our family tree, but collectively as white people. And because of this problem, we may have reaped in the form of Obama, someone who has problems with race and could start a race war in the U.S.
One thing we could do is try to let black people, such as Penny, know that we are sorry for the wrongs that they have experienced as black people. I don't know what good it will do, but we can try. I am going to try.
