For Your Healing

I have just posted a number of entries devoted to healing in my blog Journey Of One Step.

One is for when you need physical healing, another is for renewal of the mind, and another is for when you are depressed.

The Ghosts Of Christmas Past

This is a post and a ghost from a Christmas past:

From December 23, 2006

For My Republican Friends:
Here's wishing all of You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

For My Democratic Friends:
"Please accept with no obligation, explicit or implied, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. We also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2007, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. And without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee. By accepting these greetings you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for herself or himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher."

I won't be Posting as Much!

I need to give my eyes a rest. I read that video games and texting is hurting people's eyes and causing them to need glasses early, and being on the computer is no different. I am fighting for my eyes, which have always been good, but have been giving me trouble lately. I realize that all my time on the computer is a large part of the problem.

Have a very Merry Christmas!

Divine Discontent

I have the worst discontent but it's about this: I want to be in fellowship with believers who push back the powers of darkness in the place where they live. I want to worship God until the lid that is on us is lifted and we reach heaven. I want to see deliverance and healing. I want to see the power of God manifest in the worst way. I want to see God's glory.

I am getting tired of people who settle for second best, who wallow in mediocrity. I feel that Minnesota, and America are places where people dwell in mediocrity spiritually, and settle for so little with regards to their relationship to God. People don't reach out for all of God. I am tired of waiting.

When I was involved with the Toronto Blessing, the thing that characterized it was this: the city of Toronto is heavy with dark principalities and powers. To go walking through the city during the day would be to feel those heavy powers and to be overwhelmed with the oppression. But you walk into the huge church and join the large congregation and begin worshiping, and immediately you are aware that the powers of darkness have been dispelled. You are able to reach heaven and your soul and spirit are totally refreshed. This was an amazing revelation - that a church could push back all the principalities of the city in which it is placed and provide a place for people to gain access to heaven. Within it then, there is great deliverance and healing.

Are You Jesus?

A few years ago a group of salesmen went to a regional sales convention in Chicago. They had assured their wives that they would be home in plenty of time for Friday night's dinner. In their rush, with tickets and briefcases, one of these salesmen inadvertently kicked over a table which held a display of apples. Apples flew everywhere. Without stopping or looking back, they all managed to reach the plane in time for their almost nearly-missed boarding.
ALL BUT ONE!!!
He paused, took a deep breath, got in touch with his feelings, and experienced a twinge of compassion for the girl whose apple stand had been overturned.
He told his buddies to go on without him, waved good-bye, told one of them to call his wife when they arrived at their home destination and explain his taking a later flight. Then he returned to the terminal where the apples were all over the terminal floor.
He was glad he did. The 16-year-old girl was totally blind! She was softly crying, tears running down her cheeks in frustration, and at the same time helplessly groping for her spilled produce as the crowd swirled about her; no one stopping and no one to care for her plight.
The salesman knelt on the floor with her, gathered up the apples, put them back on the table and helped organize her display. As he did this, he noticed that many of them had become battered and bruised; these he set aside in another basket. When he had finished, he pulled out his wallet and said to the girl, 'Here, please take this $40 for the damage we did. Are you okay?'
She nodded through her tears.. He continued on with, 'I hope we didn't spoil your day too badly.'
As the salesman started to walk away, the bewildered blind girl called out to him, 'Mister.....'
He paused and turned to look back into those blind eyes. She continued, 'Are you Jesus?'
He stopped in mid-stride, and he wondered..
Then slowly he made his way to catch the later flight with that question burning and bouncing about in his soul: 'Are you Jesus?' Do people mistake you for Jesus? That's our destiny, is it not? To be so much like Jesus that people cannot tell the difference as we live and interact with a world that is blind to His love, life and grace.
If we claim to know Him, we should live, walk and act as He would. Knowing Him is more than simply quoting Scripture and going to church. It is actually living the Word as life unfolds day to day.
You are the apple of His eye even though we, too, have been bruised by a fall. He stopped what He was doing and picked up you and me on a hill called Calvary and paid in full for our damaged fruit.
Please share this, {IF you feel led to do so}.
Sometimes we just take things for granted, when we really need to be sharing what we know...
Thanks.

I went to the dentist today, and thank God she isn't as incompetent as this one. In fact, she isn't incompetent at all. My dentist is a woman. I like having a female dentist and doctor. As a woman it's just more comfortable.

I feel like Scrooge

Even though I'm being more generous in my gift giving this year, I am feeling more like Scrooge. When Christmas rolls around, I am not ready for it. I am still longing for the warm weather.

The season isolates people who don't have family, and who are lonely. It forces people to scramble to buy gifts, and puts a huge emphasis on the material.

It just bugs me for this reason.

So, I feel like Scrooge.

This is what Dickens says about Scrooge:

"Oh! But he was a tight-fisted hand at the grind-
stone, Scrooge! a squeezing, wrenching, grasping,
scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner! Hard and
sharp as flint, from which no steel had ever struck out
generous fire; secret, and self-contained, and solitary
as an oyster. The cold within him froze his old features,
nipped his pointed nose, shrivelled his cheek,
stiffened his gait; made his eyes red, his thin lips blue;
and spoke out shrewdly in his grating voice." - A Christmas Carol, Stave 1: Marley's Ghost

OK, so I guess I'm not that bad!

The Blind Side - Wow!

This is one amazing story! I was strongly convicted by the courage of the Tuohy's who took in a young black man from the streets, into their home, and made him one of their family. This changed his life, and theirs. What courage, what love, what a difference it makes in our society, in our world! If only more people would, could do what they have done. If only I was able to do such a thing!

This was a story worth telling, and makes one great film. That is not to mention Sandra Bullock's awesome performance as the Christian mom who was at the heart of this venture. Bullock was supposedly inspired by the real-life woman who took in Michael Oher and helped him to make something of himself. People in Hollywood, such as Bullock, need more examples like Mrs. Tuohy in order to come to faith.

What an inspiration for all of us!

Jesus is watching you...

A burglar broke into a house one night. He shined his flashlight around, looking for valuables when a voice in the dark said,

'Jesus knows you're here.'

He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and froze.

When he heard nothing more , after a bit, he shook his head and continued.

Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard

'Jesus is watching you.'

Freaked out, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice.

Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot.

'Did you say that?'
he hissed at the parrot.

'Yep',
the parrot confessed, then squawked, 'I'm just trying to warn you that Jesus is watching you.'

The burglar relaxed. 'Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?'

'Moses,'
replied the bird.

'Moses?'
the burglar laughed. 'What kind of people would name a bird Moses?'

'The kind of people that would name a Rottweiler Jesus.'

Don't Waste Your Life

Like Sophie's Choice

AFTER A FEW OF THE USUAL SUNDAY EVENING HYMNS,

THE CHURCH'S PASTOR SLOWLY STOOD UP,

WALKED OVER TO THE PULPIT AND,

BEFORE HE GAVE HIS SERMON FOR THE EVENING,

HE BRIEFLY INTRODUCED A GUEST MINISTER

WHO WAS IN THE SERVICE THAT EVENING.

IN THE INTRODUCTION, THE PASTOR TOLD THE

CONGREGATION THAT THE GUEST MINISTER WAS

ONE OF HIS DEAREST CHILDHOOD FRIENDS AND

THAT HE WANTED HIM TO HAVE A FEW MOMENTS

TO GREET THE CHURCH AND SHARE WHATEVER

HE FELT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE FOR THE SERVICE..

WITH THAT, AN ELDERLY MAN STEPPED UP TO THE

PULPIT AND BEGAN TO SPEAK.

'A FATHER, HIS SON, AND A FRIEND OF HIS SON WERE
SAILING OFF THE PACIFIC COAST ' HE BEGAN.
'WHEN A FAST APPROACHING STORM BLOCKED ANY
ATTEMPT TO GET BACK TO THE SHORE.

THE WAVES WERE SO HIGH, THAT EVEN THOUGH THE
FATHER WAS AN EXPERIENCED SAILOR, HE COULD NOT
KEEP THE BOAT UPRIGHT AND THE THREE WERE SWEPT
INTO THE OCEAN AS THE BOAT CAPSIZED.'

THE OLD MAN HESITATED FOR A MOMENT,
MAKING EYE CONTACT WITH TWO TEENAGERS WHO WERE,
FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE SERVICE BEGAN,
LOOKING SOMEWHAT INTERESTED IN HIS STORY.

THE AGED MINISTER CONTINUED WITH HIS STORY,
'GRABBING A RESCUE LINE, THE FATHER HAD TO MAKE THE
MOST EXCRUCIATING DECISION OF HIS LIFE: TO WHICH BOY WOULD HE THROW THE
OTHER END OF THE LIFE LINE.
HE ONLY HAD SECONDS TO MAKE THE DECISION.
THE FATHER KNEW THAT HIS SON WAS A CHRISTIAN AND HE
, ALSO, KNEW THAT HIS SON'S FRIEND WAS NOT.
THE AGONY OF HIS DECISION COULD NOT BE MATCHED BY
THE TORRENT OF WAVES.

AS THE FATHER YELLED OUT, 'I LOVE YOU, SON!'
HE THREW OUT THE LIFE LINE TO HIS S ON 'S FRIEND.
BY THE TIME THE FATHER HAD PULLED THE FRIEND BACK TO
THE CAPSIZED BOAT, HIS SON HAD DISAPPEARED BENEATH THE RAGING SWELLS INTO
THE BLACK OF NIGHT.

HIS BODY WAS NEVER RECOVERED.

BY THIS TIME, THE TWO TEENAGERS WERE SITTING UP
STRAIGHT IN THE PEW, ANXIOUSLY WAITING FOR THE NEXT
WORDS TO COME OUT OF THE OLD MINISTER'S MOUTH.

'THE FATHER,' HE CONTINUED, 'KNEW HIS SON WOULD
STEP INTO ETERNITY WITH JESUS AND HE COULD NOT
BEAR THE THOUGHT OF HIS SON'S FRIEND STEPPING INTO
AN ETERNITY WITHOUT JESUS.. THEREFORE, HE SACRIFICED HIS SON TO SAVE THE
SON'S FRIEND. ' !

HOW GREAT IS THE LOVE OF GOD THAT HE SHOULD DO THE
SAME FOR US. OUR HEAVENLY FATHER SACRIFICED HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON THAT WE
COULD BE SAVED. I URGE YOU TO ACCEPT HIS OFFER TO RESCUE YOU AND TAKE A HOLD
OF THE LIFE LINE HE IS THROWING OUT TO YOU IN THIS SERVICE.'

W ITH THAT, THE OLD MAN TURNED AND SAT BACK DOWN IN
HIS CHAIR AS SILENCE FILLED THE ROOM.

THE PASTOR AGAIN WALKED SLOWLY TO THE PULPIT AND
DELIVERED A BRIEF SERMON WITH AN INVITATION AT THE
END. HOWEVER, NO ONE RESPONDED TO THE APPEAL.

WITHIN MINUTES AFTER THE SERVICE ENDED, THE TWO
TEENAGERS WERE AT THE OLD MAN'S SIDE.

'THAT WAS A NICE STORY,' POLITELY STATED ONE OF
THEM, 'BUT I DON'T THINK IT WAS VERY REALISTIC FOR A
FATHER TO GIVE UP HIS ONLY SON'S LIFE IN HOPES THAT THE OTHER BOY WOULD
BECOME A CHRISTIAN.'

'WELL, YOU'VE GOT A POINT THERE,' THE OLD MAN
REPLIED,
GLANCING DOWN AT HIS WORN BIBLE. A BIG SMILE
BROADENED HIS NARROW FACE. HE ONCE AGAIN LOOKED UP AT THE BOYS AND SAID, 'IT
SURE ISN'T VERY REALISTIC, IS IT? BUT, I'M STANDING HERE TODAY TO TELL YOU
THAT STORY GIVES ME A GLIMPSE OF WHAT IT MUST HAVE BEEN LIKE FOR GOD T O
GIVE UP HIS SON FOR ME.

YOU SEE...

I WAS THAT FATHER AND YOUR PASTOR IS MY SON'S
FRIEND.'

Camo Couch

Look very carefully before you sit on it.

When Your Hut's On Fire

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him. Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions. One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt the worst had happened, and everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. He cried out, 'God! How could you do this to me?' Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island! It had come to rescue him! 'How did you know I was here?' asked the weary man of his rescuers. 'We saw your smoke signal,' they replied.

The Moral of This Story:
It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of our
pain and suffering. Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground. It just may be a smoke signal that summons the Grace of God.

And I want to add to this: When we are in trouble and we want a solution, we will build a hut. If the hut burns down we think it is the end of the world for us. When the burning down of the hut produces the solution to totally bring us out of trouble, we realize that God had to bring us through worse trouble to get us out of trouble altogther. We were going to be content with a hut on an island, but God was trying to get us completely off the island by burning down the hut, but things looked completely hopeless for a while, until the rescue came.

Christian Bashing

Since it so in vogue to bash Christians, it is not surprising to find a cartoon on the editorial page of the Minneapolis Star/Tribune that does the same.

It is a cartoon by L.K. Hanson and he has a quote above it by Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) Irish playwright and writer:

"I have never come across anyone in whom the MORAL SENSE was dominant who was not heartless, cruel, vindictive, log-stupid and entirely lacking in the smallest sense of humanity."

The cartoon is of a woman with her mouth wide open, showing her mercury fillings, and these are the words coming out of her mouth:

"I'm always right and I never lie"
"Feminists have ruined things for ladies like me"
"My religion is the only true religion"
"The sixties have caused the collapse of society"
"The gays are taking over"

This is all thought-provoking. Clearly, the group of people being targeted is Christians, and the conservatives.

The quote makes no sense. A moral sense precludes the negative things that he mentions. A moral sense ought to make you much more humane, much less heartless, should take away cruelty and vindictiveness, etc.

What makes him say these things? And he wrote them back in the end of the 19th century.

And what makes L.K. Hanson write the things he writes coming out of her mouth? "I'm always right and I never lie." Truly, if any says "I'm always right" it comes from pride. Saying "I never lie" is also prideful and never true.

And maybe the way Christians have dealt with some of the other issues hasn't been godly, such as the way they defend the truth, or the way they deal with sin problems such as homosexuality.

Though I was initially annoyed by the cartoon and the quote, this caused me to reflect on ways that Christians have failed to love and to live out the life of Jesus.

It's something to think about.

Doris

What does the world care about one overweight, older black woman with no money, no job, no husband, no children in the area, nothing to speak of?

I met Doris at a church I was going to in South Minneapolis. She has been diagnosed Schizophrenic and lives in a group home in North Minneapolis. She was married to an abusive husband and her children live in Mississippi and she never sees them. They call her once in a while.

Sounds grim unless you know Doris and how sweet she is. She loves Jesus, and will always ask what you need prayer for when you come to see her and then she will pray a heart-felt prayer of faith. At the church she loves to get the opportunity to lay hands on someone for healing.

God spoke to me during the summer when I visited my home-town and the place where my childhood home once stood. There is now an apartment building standing where the house stood that houses mainly older women who are low-income. As I walked slowly past the building and watched the women sitting outside their building, biding their time with nothing to do but smoke, and with an air of despair, I heard God, I think, ask me if I was willing to give my life to helping people like this. Because there but for the grace of God go I.

I struggled with that. These people are the unlovely and unloveable. They are the rejects of society. I don't desire them anymore than anyone else.

But I realized I had already begun to reach out to women like these in the form of Doris and one other woman from that same church.

I take Doris out to lunch sometimes.
Here we are at Old Country Buffet.

Doris' prayer requests:

1. to find a husband and home of her own

2. to get out of financial bondage into God's prosperity for her

3. to be healed of schizophrenia

One Perfect Thing

I realize now the folly of trying to find a pet to replace a pet you had. I found this cat and thought he would be Tubby all over again. He was not. I already returned him to the Animal Humane Society because he was far too intense for my family, being a 4 year old male who wasn't neutered until recently.

But he was such a love, anyway, and I quickly began to get attached. He was so affectionate, and would put his head right next to your head, and you could feel the current coming from him. You know how that is with a human, if they put their head right to your head, and how uncomfortable that can be unless you share a strong bond with them?

With an animal like this it is divine. You realize that they are divine - that they have a spirit inside them that comes from God, that they are God-given.

They are the perfection of God's design. I can say that even though he was imperfect and we had to return him. He was such joy and delight. He added just the love and joy I was needing in my life after losing my cat Buddy.

Animals show God's perfection, in that they are so perfectly designed, unmarred by sin. I am lamenting that I had to return him, but rejoicing that my life was blessed with the time I had with him. His name was Caboose.

The Son

A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art.
They had everything in their collection, from Picasso to Raphael. They
would often sit together and admire the great
works of art.

When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was
very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The
father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son.

About a month later, just before Christmas,

There was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with
a large package in his hands.

He said, 'Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom
your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying
me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly.
He often talked about you, and your love for art…. The young man held out
this package. 'I know this isn't much.. I'm not really a great artist,
but I think your son would have wanted you to have this.'

The father opened the package. It was a portrait of his son,
painted by the young man. He stared in awe at the way the soldier had
captured the personality of his son in the painting. The father was so
drawn to the eyes that his own eyes welled up with tears. He thanked the
young man and offered to pay him for the picture. 'Oh, no sir, I could
never repay what your son did for me. It's a gift.'

The father hung the portrait over his mantle. Every time visitors
came to his home he took them to see the portrait of his son before he
showed them any of the other great works he had collected.

The man died a few months later... There was to be a great
auction of his paintings. Many influential people gathered, excited over
seeing the great paintings and having an opportunity to purchase one for
their collection.

On the platform sat the painting of the son. The auctioneer
pounded his gavel. 'We will start the bidding with this picture of the
son. Who will bid for this picture?'

There was silence.

Then a voice in the back of the room shouted, 'We want to see the
famous paintings. Skip this one.'

But the auctioneer persisted. 'Will somebody bid for this
painting? Who will start the bidding? $100, $200?'

Another voice angrily.. 'We didn't come to see this painting. We
came to see the Van Gogh's, the Rembrandts.. Get on with the real bids!'

But still the auctioneer continued. 'The son! The son! Who'll
take the son?'

Finally, a voice came from the very back of the room. It was the
longtime gardener of the man and his son.. 'I'll give $10 for the
painting...' Being a poor man, it was all he could afford.

'We have $10, who will bid $20?'

'Give it to him for $10. Let's see the masters.'

The crowd was becoming angry. They didn't want the picture of the
son.
They wanted the more worthy investments for their collections.

The auctioneer pounded the gavel. 'Going once, twice, SOLD for
$10!'

A man sitting on the second row shouted, 'Now let's get on with
the collection!'

The auctioneer laid down his gavel. 'I'm sorry, the auction is
over.'

'What about the paintings?'

'I am sorry. When I was called to conduct this auction, I was
told of a secret stipulation in the will. I was not allowed to reveal
that stipulation until this time. Only the painting of the son would be
auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate,
including the paintings.

The man who took the son gets everything!'

God gave His son 2,000 years ago to die on the cross. Much like
the auctioneer, His message today is: 'The son, the son, who'll take the
son?'

Because, you see, whoever takes the Son gets everything.

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, WHO SO
EVER BELIEVETH, SHALL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE......THAT'S LOVE!

Losing and winning the Silly Saturday Contest!

Someone just sent me this photo, captioned. Sherri ran this same photo in her Saturday contest a while back, and I captioned it. Here were my entries:

Dear God, please take care of Daddy and Mommy and my sister and brother and me, and Buddy. And please take care of yourself, God. If anything happens to you, we're gonna be in a big mess.

Dog:
Dear God,
How come people love to smell flowers, but seldom, if ever, smell one another?

Dog:
Dear God, When we get to Heaven, can we sit on your couch? Or is it the same old story?

None of my captions won but that's OK. None of them were my own originals:)!

Here's the caption my friend sent with it:

'Dear Lord: Thank you for bringing me to Timmy's house and not to Michael Vick's -- AMEN!'

I just wanted to post this photo again because it is so darn cute! And I just won Sherri's contest, finally, after many Silly Saturdays of throwing in my captions. Yippee!!

Healing of Hypothyroidism - my 1,000th post!

UPDATE!  AS OF 2013 - totally healed!  I got a test done by a doctor in summer of 2013 and it came back in the completely normal range.  Hallelujah!!!

This is strange. It has been hard to tell people about this. Why? People reject hearing about an absolute, in-your-face miracle of healing by the hand of God. It is amazing!
This is one of those.
God has healed my hypothyroidism.
When I told someone about it, she said, “well, it won’t always be that way. You’ll probably still need to take Synthroid someday.” Great. Great response to a tangible miracle. Why is it that people reject something so amazing?
Only months ago, a doctor had found that my thyroid level was low, which is indicated by a thing called TSH. When the TSH level is high, that means that your thyroid is low.
My TSH level was 7.45, and the normal range is between 0.2-4.5. My doctor prescribed Synthroid, but I wrote her a letter saying I would not be taking Synthroid, and that Jesus Christ still heals today.
She had already sent me a prescription for Synthroid, and ordered another test of my thyroid level two months later, perhaps thinking I was, in fact, taking Synthroid.
I went in for the test, but not until I first went for healing prayer to the healing rooms in Brooklyn Center, MN. I had hands laid on me and I was anointed with oil for healing. I also read scriptures on healing and prayed to the Lord for healing.
I got the test back and it proved that the Lord had done the first truly tangible, physical miracle in my life! My TSH had gone down. It was now 5.58.
My insurance was going to end and so I wanted another test done before I was not going to be able to get more tests done. I got another test about two months later. I had been prayed for again at the healing rooms, and by other healing ministers, and continued to read healing scriptures out loud and pray.
The test came back. The Lord had done it again. Now my TSH had gone down yet farther. It was now 5.37! At the level it is now, the doctor merely says, “slightly elevated, stable.” I don’t know if the doctor realizes that I’m not taking Synthroid, but she didn’t prescribe Synthroid.
Now, I will believe God for my TSH to go all the way to normal.
Question not if the Lord wants to heal you! I don’t.

The 7 Wonders Of The World

Here is the first of the seven wonders of the world: my cat Tubby, last seen in Texas, walking along a highway near Fort Worth. When we were at the Grand Canyon, people stopped taking photos of the Canyon, and started shooting pictures of him on his leash!

Wisdom - Proverbs 8

In this passage, God talks about the benefits of wisdom.

It says that wisdom is to be valued far above material blessings, and yet it says that wisdom brings material blessings, and ultimately, it brings life in general to the one who heeds it.

1 Does not wisdom cry out,
And understanding lift up her voice?
2 She takes her stand on the top of the high hill,
Beside the way, where the paths meet.
3 She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city,
At the entrance of the doors:
4 “ To you, O men, I call,
And my voice is to the sons of men.
5 O you simple ones, understand prudence,
And you fools, be of an understanding heart.
6 Listen, for I will speak of excellent things,
And from the opening of my lips will come right things;
7 For my mouth will speak truth;
Wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8 All the words of my mouth are with righteousness;
Nothing crooked or perverse is in them.
9 They are all plain to him who understands,
And right to those who find knowledge.
10 Receive my instruction, and not silver,
And knowledge rather than choice gold;
11 For wisdom is better than rubies,
And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.
12 “ I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
And find out knowledge and discretion.
13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil;
Pride and arrogance and the evil way
And the perverse mouth I hate.
14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom;
I am understanding, I have strength.
15 By me kings reign,
And rulers decree justice.
16 By me princes rule, and nobles,
All the judges of the earth.
17 I love those who love me,
And those who seek me diligently will find me.
18 Riches and honor are with me,
Enduring riches and righteousness.
19 My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold,
And my revenue than choice silver.
20 I traverse the way of righteousness,
In the midst of the paths of justice,
21 That I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth,
That I may fill their treasuries.
22 “ The LORD possessed me at the beginning of His way,
Before His works of old.
23 I have been established from everlasting,
From the beginning, before there was ever an earth.
24 When there were no depths I was brought forth,
When there were no fountains abounding with water.
25 Before the mountains were settled,
Before the hills, I was brought forth;
26 While as yet He had not made the earth or the fields,
Or the primal dust of the world.
27 When He prepared the heavens, I was there,
When He drew a circle on the face of the deep,
28 When He established the clouds above,
When He strengthened the fountains of the deep,
29 When He assigned to the sea its limit,
So that the waters would not transgress His command,
When He marked out the foundations of the earth,
30 Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman;
And I was daily His delight,
Rejoicing always before Him,
31 Rejoicing in His inhabited world,
And my delight was with the sons of men.
32 “ Now therefore, listen to me, my children,
For blessed are those who keep my ways.
33 Hear instruction and be wise,
And do not disdain it.
34 Blessed is the man who listens to me,
Watching daily at my gates,
Waiting at the posts of my doors.
35 For whoever finds me finds life,
And obtains favor from the LORD;
36 But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul;
All those who hate me love death.”
