Our Father Who Art In Heaven

Something in family devotions yesterday made me think that the subject of "father" is a touchy one for many people!

Maybe dad was abusive, or just distant. Maybe he was too authoritative.

Maybe he was awesome.

But in many cases, he was a failure.

Maybe a guy who is a dad feels inadequate or is lamenting his failures.

In any case, the role of the father in our lives is an important one, and in the case of failed dads, there is only one remedy: to go to the eternal Father and find refuge.

Today I meditated on the Lord's prayer, the one Jesus told us to pray, thinking that in that prayer there was some wisdom for us about crawling into the lap of our heavenly Father.

Here it is in a contemporary version:

So when you pray, you should pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name always be kept holy.
May your kingdom come
and what you want be done,
here on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us the food we need for each day.
Forgive us for our sins,
just as we have forgiven those who
sinned against us.
And do not cause us to be tempted,
but save us from the Evil One.

Matt 6:9-13 New Century Version

I wish you all the healing from your "bad father issues" possible today.
