The Wisdom of Derek Prince - Protection

Declaration of Confidence in God's Protection

Derek Prince:

Someone asked us: "How do you protect yourself if you live anywhere in the Middle East or the Balkans, where people are always putting curses on other people?" There are many answers I could give, but here is just one thing that Ruth and I do every night.

Is 54:17 says this: "No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their righteousness is from Me, says the Lord."

The important statement is, "Our righteousness is from the Lord." It is not our own righteousness. The Lord has covered us with a robe of His righteousness. If we were to come against Satan and curses in our own righteousness, we would have nothing to stand on. So every night before we go to sleep, Ruth and I make this declaration. It takes only two or three minutes.

No weapon that is formed against us shall prosper and every tongue which rises against us in judgment we do condemn. This is our heritage as servants of the Lord and our righteousness is from You, O Lord of Hosts. If there are those who have been speaking or praying against us or seeking harm or evil to us or have rejected us, we forgive them and, having forgiven them, we bless them in the name of the Lord. *

Now we declare, O Lord, that You and You alone are our God, and besides You there is no other - a just God and a Savior, the Father, the Son and the Spirit - and we worship You!

We submit ourselves afresh to You tonight in unreserved obedience. Having submitted to You, Lord, we do as Your Word directs. We resist the devil: all his pressures, his attacks, his deceptions, every instrument or agent he would seek to use against us. We do not submit! We resist him, drive him out from us and exclude him from us in the Name of Jesus. Specifically, we reject and repel:

Every Form of Witchcraft

Finally, Lord, we thank You that through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, we have passed out from under the curse and entered into the blessing of Abraham whom you blessed in all things.**

God's Favor

Happy New Year Gabrielle!

Well well…Derrick Prince…hmmm he believed in followers of Jesus being demon possessed…He died in 2003…I suppose he should have rejected and repelled death by heart failure which got him in the end….…

Hi Livingsword! Thank you for the greeting and Happy 2010 to you too!!

Derek Prince believed in believers having demonic oppression, that is, that Satan could still have believers bound through demonic activity.

He died at a ripe old age of around 89.

Livingsword: I am a Christian. My salvation testimony leaves no doubt. However, contrary to what you have been taught by men, a son of Abraham can have demons. I got free from: lust, doubt of salvation, porn, a crooked neck, constant background noise, late day fatigue, and other things as well... in about 80 minutes of repenting and deliverance prayers.
The porn spirit in particular I could feel as part of me. It felt like it was me.
This happens from a soul tie. The demons tear or remove a portion of the soul, and insert themselves in that place.

Hi Man from Modesto, nice to meet you…

Would you please deliver unto me chapter and verse of this happening to a Christian in the Bible?

Livingsword: Moses and Abraham also died, as did Paul and Peter and every writer of the books of the Bible. Your acidic comment on the passing of Derek Prince (or anyone for that matter) is distasteful, and disrespectful to the deceased.

Derek Prince never said followers of Jesus could be possessed. Rather, he said they unequivocally cannot be possessed. He said that word is not in the Greek. What it does speak of is being "demonized". The KJV translated it "possessed" which led to a lot of confusion. We are possessed, he taught, by God, if we are born of the Spirit of God.

I encourage you to listen to some of the radio podcasts on Derek Prince's teaching on this topic, which - if you are genuinely interested in knowing the truth about it - will lay it out for you better than asking for "chapter and verse".

Jesus cast demons out of people who followed the Mosaic Law, people who probably lived more righteously than many of us.

I can understand your reticence about the subject: I totally poo-pooed it once too. But after 20-some years of being a professing Christian, I surrendered every single area of my life to Christ, and the Bible has come alive to me like never before.

One thing I might ask of you: where can you give chapter and verse that states a Christian cannot have demonic activity in their soul or body?

You may find (as I did) that you believe we cannot be demonized because that's your belief, but it's not based on scripture.

Thank you Kirsty - you are better at talking to Livingsword than I am. He is a tough one.

Hi Kirsty nice to meet you…

I truly appreciate the dialogue…

Of course Moses and Abraham died but Mr. Prince said that he and his wife had the gift of healing yet that did not stop them from getting ill and dying, the emperor has no clothes.

See Mr. Princes’ own document on his own web page:

Derik Prince taught that “if there is genuine faith, healing will follow”

(On the last page under “Gradual process” I never saw Jesus do any gradual healing miracles)

Ok for the sake of conversation let us look at it as not demon possessed but demonized:

–verb (used with object), -ized, -iz•ing.
1. to turn into a demon or make demonlike.
2. to subject to the influence of demons.

Therefore the usage of demonized replacing demon possessed is a shell game. For all intents and purposes this would mean a Holy Spirit filled Christian can be demon possessed.

This brings me back to my previous question, where is this chapter and verse from the Bible? Is it really a bad thing for me to ask for a New Testament proof text for this…perhaps two or three of them? Is that an unfair burden of proof? Or should I not be concerned about what God has to say and just accept every idea that floats along?

I have listened to many talks from Mr. Prince that is how I am aware of his teachings on this matter.

Kirsty you said: “Jesus cast demons out of people who followed the Mosaic Law, people who probably lived more righteously than many of us.”

That is a very interesting statement…Christians are found righteous because of Jesus not by following the Law (I suspect you would agree with this?) Religiously following the Mosaic Law (even if you are a Jew) cannot make a person righteous before God. Following the Mosaic Law does not make a person a believer, even pre-cross.

You also said: One thing I might ask of you: where can you give chapter and verse that states a Christian cannot have demonic activity in their soul or body?

My argument is that nowhere in the New Testament is a genuine Christian shown to be demon possessed. The burden of proof is not upon me but Mr. Prince who made the allegation; he or since he is dead his followers need to represent a Biblical argument to defend his assertion that is alien to Scripture. Therefore the lack of a Biblical text to support Christians being demon possessed proves my claim, that along with the fact that a genuine Christian is filled with the Holy Spirit…filled is pretty full.

I am not however interested in winning a debate, I am interested in following Jesus and being transformed by His Word in my life. After all so far He has brought me from being a rampant hedonist to a devout Jesus follower so the Bible can’t be all that bad, right?

I am interested in the Biblical texts you could provide for the position Mr. Prince takes; I have never seen provided any and I have scoured his web page. It would be great to have 1, 2, 3 or 4 of them from the New Testament…

Respectfully and yes it may be hard to believe but true…humbly…

Gabrielle this article continues to have legs…good for you girl!

Derek Prince died because it was his time - he was in his late 80's and had completed his mission in life, and had seen many miracles in his life. He also talks in a teaching on endurance, about how there are people who are not healed because it is more important for their endurance of character, than for their healing. He talks about people who have been instantly healed, how they walk away and are not grateful or show any fruit in their lives.

I truly doubt the statement, "I am interested in following Jesus and being transformed by His Word in my life."

Gabrielle Eden said...

Livingsword - I doubt that you know Derek Prince's teaching very well, and that it would be hard for you to know it very well, for you have a caustic spirit - contentious, and you do not appreciate the love and devotion that Derek Prince had in his ministry and in his life. He was a true lover of God.

Hi Gabrielle,

It seems that you take my words in a way that is misunderstood so I shall provide a verse that shall elucidate:

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
-- Acts 17:11

I am eager to examine the Scriptures to be transformed by the Truth of the Word. I would think that all Christians would want this; this is why I ask for chapter and verse, but we do know some prefer to have their ears itched:

3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
- - 2 Timothy 4:3

Which teaching do you prefer, that of man or God?

Gabrielle Eden said...

Livingsword - the problem is, you like to argue. That is what you do.
