Sidney Poitier remembered
Seems like yesterday. I walked down a sidewalk in Los Angeles, and who should be walking past me? Sidney Poitier! I told him how I respected his work. He thanked me. Didn't seem to have too high an opinion of himself. This man began leading roles as a black man in Hollywood before the civil rights movement had even begun, in the 1950s. Sitting in the movie theater in our all-white town, seeing him in the movie "To Sir With Love" I was inspired. His integrity, intelligence and wonderful persona caused me to understand better the cause of civil rights. It is too sad to have lost this man.

Movies I recommend of his to see, all in the 1960s are: Raisin In The Sun, Lilies Of The Field, To Sir With Love and Guess who's Coming To Dinner. He set the precedent for so many black people.
