on Mel Brooks still alive at 95

"Possibly more than anyone else, Brooks epitomized American Jewish humor in the twentieth century, much of which rested on the idea that it’s funny when a kvetchy Jewish guy shows up where he doesn’t belong, which is most places." {haha-which is most places} jokes of his that he got from someone early on: JOKES: A man walks into a grocery store. He says, “I want a half a pound of lox. I want some cream cheese.” And he stops and says, “All your shelves are filled with boxes of salt! Do you sell a lot of salt?” And the grocery man says, “Me, if I sell a box of salt a week it’s a miracle. I don’t sell a lot of salt. But the guy that sells me salt—boy, can he sell salt!” “I met a girl in Chicago that was so skinny. I brought her to a restaurant, and they said, ‘Check your umbrella.’ ” Brooks, at 95, is working on the second History Of The World movie plus his memoirs--kudos to you sir
