God is good-on the road

Just a reflection on the ways that my trip caused me to remember God's goodness...

I was able to make the trip in the first place. I had the money. I was able to stay in a great hotel in North Dakota, in Valley City at AmericInn on the way out and in Jamestown at Comfort Inn on the way back - places where there aren't many great campgrounds and it's better just to stay in a hotel. Besides, I sort of wanted part of my trip to be spent doing a hotel stay. When AmericInn proved to be full on the way back, and I came through Jamestown, I was fortunate that it's a bigger town and there are more hotels available.

There were pools at both hotels so I got some exercise.

There was also an Assembly of God church two blocks away from the Comfort Inn in Jamestown, since I was leaving on a Sunday morning, and I enjoyed the service.

When I got to Miles City, I didn't want to bother with my tent as it was late, and fortunately, the lady was offering one of their KOA Kamping cabins at a discount that night, so I got one.

I always got enough sleep so the next day wasn't ruined, even when I had to sleep in my car.

I was craving a Dairy Queen ice cream cone at one point and immediately I found one. This means a lot when you are traveling a long distance. I was craving Cracker Barrel's food and atmosphere when I got to Billings and I immediately found one.

People were friendly, and I got a chance to share my faith. At Camp Three Forks in Three Forks, MT, I met a man who was probably in his fifties who was traveling alone as he was just entering retirement. He seemed interested in me, talking about how he had been married for only four years and is now divorced. Then he mentioned that some guy he met while camping started talking to him about the Lord! He thought he was going to be talking to someone who would think this was as ridiculous as he did, until he realized that I was actually taking interest in the idea of sharing the Lord with him - that I liked the idea. He was no longer interested in me. I got to share my faith and he listened, but after we talked he said goodbye and obviously wasn't interested in pursuing anything more. God is definitely trying to speak to him, since people keep being put in his path.

I got to share my faith with the family that I floated down the river with. I told them about my purity ring that I lost in the river and what it represented. Luke, the young artist, was the one who seemed most open to this.

The beauty of nature along the way, and the spontaneity of life on the road refreshed me, and made me so aware of God's goodness - I was on such a high!

I already told about the experience of almost running out of gas and how that worked out.

It was good to get away from blogging, from the inter net, from my computer for a week. I didn't need it and I would have put my computer in jeopardy, as I left my car in the heat many times. I was traveling most of the time during my week, except for the little bit of time I had to get out and see places along the way, and try to meet people and get pictures or eat, or set up my accommodations for the night.

I really had no time or opportunity for the web. It was the first break I had in a long time.

Hey everyone reading this! I am praying for more physical activity in my life and to get off my arse! How about you?

It sounds like you had a really nice time. I'm happy for you. As for exercise, I've been doing push ups and sit ups regularly for the past week or two and did quite a bit of biking earlier this summer. That reminds me, I've got to pick up my bike from the shop!

I heard about your biking. I've been doing 12 miles (around Medicine Lake and back home) quite regularly. Good for you, Ben.
