My first event on my first day in Three Forks area was to visit the caverns just south of there discovered in the 19th century, named after Lewis and Clark. We took a vigorous hike up the mountain to get to the entrance, and spent the tour climbing down through the cave back to the level we started on. Caves are dark and dank and get at your claustrophopia. Sometimes we slid down narrow slides. It was interesting. So I don't forget, the formations that are caused by the dripping down from the ceiling of the cave are called stellactites (tite for "holding on tight") and the formations caused by building up from the bottom where the drippings gather as they drop are called stellagmites (mite for "might make it" says the guide.)
