Water vs. Wine

To my friends who enjoy a glass of wine - and those who don't.

As Ben Franklin said, 'In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom,
in water there is bacteria.'

In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated
that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would
have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. Coli) - bacteria
found in feces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop.

However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila,
rum, whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a
purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.
Remember: Water = Poop, Wine = Health

Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water
and be full of shit.

There is no need to thank me for this valuable information: I'm doing it as
a public service

Not to rain on your parade, but given that Louis Pasteur only discovered the microbe theory of disease around 1850, well after Franklin's death, I'm having a little trouble believing Franklin actually said that!

Also, e coli is a bacteria, not poop itself, and is in the air. That's actually how you get it into your bowels for the most part, and it's a good thing. They don't work well without it.

Not to diminish the point Paul makes to Timothy--my teetotaling is not an objection to alcohol as much as it is to the marketing of it via implied fornication. However, your source needs some work....

It comes from my sister in Germany, and probably from my Uncle Jack in Washington state, and is probably just meant in jest, thus it is not scientific! I would agree with you about Franklin. That makes sense. hey Bike, thanks for making me feel alive. No comments for quite a while.

I'm using comment moderation so if someone puts a comment on a post that is much earlier, and way out of my sight, I'll still see it. I'm not really paranoid about people's comments or anything like that.

I would agree too that a beer a day or a glass of wine a day wouldn't harm in any way. In my case though (and I'm guessing about 40 percent of all drinkers) on too many Friday (and Saturday) nights it became 4 or 5. It's the alcohol that really messes up your body. I'll just stick to lemonade and an occasional O'douls! Since you brought it up, i've heard these 8 cups of water a day people are not helping their cause at all! Maybe you or I could blog on that!

My sister, who sent this, lives in Germany where they seem to drink in a controlled way, after so many years of drinking. Some of us can drink that way, who don't have a problem with alcohol. I certainly am not promoting alcoholism. If you have to stay away from it altogether, I understand that. I've been able to drink a little beer or wine here and there. Good for you if you know your limit.

About the water....it's true. They've figured out that the drinking so much water every day is bad for you, because making yourself pee too much is not good! Go figure!

I learned the art of drinking in Germany, and at least where I was, it was respectable. No "Swedish Bikini Team" posters, no sleaze, just a well lit place with plants, real art, and such. Students who chose to get drunk were often confronted by the waiter or waitress.

I'd be glad to have a pint if it were that way here.

Now Sweden, on the other hand....of course, I got into Stockholm just as the soccer game was letting out from the national team....

Interesting, Bike. I think the Europeans do have a more balanced way with alcohol, in general.

Well, maybe the Germans I interacted with, but certainly not the Swedish students I saw on the subway in Stockholm!

I'm not informed on alcoholism in that part of the world. Makes sense to me that there's excessive drinking there too.
