Again, Good Luck Edwards!

John Edwards cracks me up with his $400 haircuts and turning around and telling Americans to sacrifice their SUVs, while he considers himself a "hopeful" for the presidency. Does he hear them laughing?

I drive a little Scion Xb that cost a smidge over $14K brand new, with all the power this and that, and gets around 30 mpg highway or city. I drove it in the snows of the snow belt of upstate NY, and now I'm driving it through the torrential downpours and attendant high waters that rise along roadways the Texas Gulf Coast when tropical storms and heavy rains hit.

Who needs SUVs!! I love my little car!

John would be proud of you - ha! I have a Toyota too that cost even less and gets even better mileage. Who needs SUVs?

They're awful nice when you've got enough kids to fill a Suburban, and also very nice when you have to tow something. But for single people without a boat & such, pretty much overkill.

bike, true, my scion won't tow anything. The owner's manual has numerous warnings about never, never towing. I have a kayak that I put on top.

gabrielle, our other car is a 98 corolla!

I drive what I can get. Right now it is Chevy Venture. It seats 8 people, unless we put the seat down to transport more cargo. With a family of 5 that travels often, it works great for us, but it would be nice to get better gas mileage!

I agree that the SUV use gets out of hand and wonder about all the single people driving huge vehicles and affording the gas. It's like a status symbol driving a gas guzzling machine! Ridiculous!

Given the history of the automotive world, should we be surprised that the "cachet" of a vehicle plays a big role? Why else would someone buy a Ferrari, for example?
