They Try To Freak Us Out Once Again!

Drudge had this article on how our internet addiction is so serious. Indeed, it is something that people should check, just like anything else, but I doubt it is right up there with the addictions they mentioned: gambling, sex and kleptomania. Just like I doubt you can equate going to coffee shops and drinking excessive amounts of coffee with frequenting bars and drinking alcohol. They are going too far in saying it is more serious than Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

It mentions that internet addiction involves teens and people in their 50's. I have to laugh. Yeh, that puts me right there, and with many of the people who are communicating with me, but that's cool. And I have to say that I find blogging and my internet use to be therapeutic. It puts me in touch with a world larger than myself. I allows me to "travel" while I have very little money to travel. It allows me to communicate. It is creative.

I was jealous of Jonathan, one of the main bloggers at the site Ambassadors of Christ, who took off to do a missions trip in Ecuador, and had no need for being in the blogosphere. That, ideally is what we all should be doing. We all should have lives so caught up that we don't have much time for the blogosphere. But when you can't be going to Ecuador, the internet serves a vital purpose.

God knows that there are those of us who are required to live rather mundane lives working rather boring jobs here in the States or in other countries, doing the mission work of giving our money to missionaries, like Jim at Servantworks. While I'm living that way, I need Jim's blog to know how to pray for the people he's ministering to and to pray for the ministry I'm giving my money to. And it is a beautiful way to be in touch.

For some internet use may have gone "off the charts" but I know that the internet has been a valuable tool.
