This news source tells us that men are more miserable than the rest of us in their late 30s, indicating that we're all actually miserable, some just more than others. And, it states just who is most miserable besides men in their late 30s. Thanks for telling me that women at any age are all miserable. And, it says that teens and the elderly are also the most miserable. But it makes no sense, because it says that a man will regain his happiness once he is 65. That means he has, like five years of happiness before he is elderly.
According to this study, we all might as well give up right now. This was a study supposedly by the British government! What kind of a cockamamey study is this? Which people are they talking about? Which women did this study? They're all miserable?

They didn't study me!! I'd probably cancel out all their research- I'm one of the happiest(teenage) girls I know!
According to BBC News "The information was collected by the British Market Research Bureau and collated in Defra's 2007 Survey of Public Attitudes and Behaviours. "
I do think a lot of people are miserable. Also think if they would begin to be grateful for what they have, they would be less miserable.
Yay! Mall Diva!
and Lea, the point of my post is this: this is an affront to a lot of people who live happy, rewarding lives, particularly men in their late 30's and early 40's. Man, that could be the best time in a man's life. Just on a superficial level, he could be still in great physical shape (a lot of athletes are performing their best) and there is no reason why family should be becoming more, rather than less stressful.
Another point is that studies like this always seem to be telling us how to think and feel. A man in his late 30's and early 40's is supposed to be miserable. Why? Just because of his age? That is ridiculous. There are so many factors - how a person chooses to live one's life, one's belief system, etc.
And the "women at any age" or "teens" as teen Mall Diva pointed out - the same thing.
The thing is that most "men live lives of quiet desperation" as Thoreau said, but there is something more, a life in Christ, that takes you out of constant misery. This study was obviously fueled by a view without Christ.
It's your choice if you want to take the survey or article about it as an affront. I'm not sure why you do, but it's your choice.
I don't think studies like this are telling anyone how to feel. People reading the study can choose how they want to feel. Granted, some people don't realize this. So they do things like blame other people for the way they feel.
You say "Obviously the study is fueled by a view without Christ." From the tiny amount the article reported, it sounds like the survey was fueled by a desire to find out how happy and satisfied people perceive themselves to be and how much they worry. I don't see anything wrong with asking those kind of questions.
I don't see the article or survey as an affront. It's just a study. It didn't really evoke any feeling in me at all. I find it interesting to read about how people perceive themselves.

sorry about the 2 comments. blogger.com always confuses me as to whether the posts were accepted.
I'll shut up now :-)
Lea, you're funny. I mean they are telling us how to feel because I'm offended as a woman, and, if I'm not mistaken, Mall Diva is offended as a teen, by them saying that all teens and all women are miserable. Thus, they are telling us that we're supposed to be miserable. And why? Just because we're in those broad categories?
Does it make sense to you? I don't see how.
You're right, now that I think about it. there are lots of miserable people. I'm just looking at this from my own corner, where there are mostly people who are living a life with Christ, who have pain, but are not miserable.
Think on these scriptures, the good news: "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." Romans 3:23
and "the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6: 23
Peace to you, Lea!
Hey, don't worry. I'm not the least bit offended. People amuse me.
Yeh, and by saying offended, I don't mean in the really serious way either Mall Diva, I just mean annoyed, or "miffed" as the Brits would say. This whole thing was just making me laugh!!!! I meant it to be funny!
