From an Oklahoma pastor

"On Wednesday, August 19, an unexpected tornado appeared and touched down in downtown Minneapolis. The following account was from an eyewitness:

On a day when no severe weather was predicted or expected...a tornado forms, baffling the weather experts-most saying they've never seen anything like it. It happens right in the city. The city: Minneapolis.

The tornado happens on a Wednesday...during the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America's national convention in the Minneapolis Convention Center. The convention is using Central Lutheran across the street as its church. The church has set up tents around its building for this purpose.

This curious tornado touches down just south of downtown and follows 35W straight towards the city center. It crosses I-94. It is now downtown.

The time: 2PM

The first buildings on the downtown side of I-94 are the Minneapolis Convention Center and Central Lutheran. The tornado severely damages the convention center roof, shreds the tents, breaks off the steeple of Central Lutheran, splits what's left of the steeple in two...and then lifts.

The timing was significant! At 2 PM, the 5th session was to begin. The main item of the session was "Consideration: Proposed Social Statement on Human Sexuality." The social statement was the prelude to a vote scheduled for Friday to decide whether practicing homosexuality is a behavior that should disqualify a person from the pastoral ministry. It was shortly before the vote that strong winds toppled trees outside the convention center and damaged the steeple of the church next door, prompting a speaker to quip, "We trust that the weather is not a commentary on our work.""

What do you think?

Pray for Muslims like Zazi!!!

This story just gets to me - the story of Zazi, the home-grown terrorist who was just arrested. Please pray for him and everyone like him - Muslims living on the fringes of American society, unable to assimilate, angry at Americans, getting lost in problems typical in the west such as getting into debt.

Read his story here.

Pray that God would be real to them, that He would reveal Himself to them, that He would help them and love them and help us to do our part to be the hands and feet of Jesus to them.

Revelation - Kari Jobe

We sang this in church on Sunday, and the worship leader's voice was even better than Kari Jobe's - it was so beautiful, and I can't get it out of my head - and I don't want to!!!!!

Jesus is invading Soi Cowboy!

Bangkok, Thailand, has a reputation for being the sex capital of the world. Soi Cowboy (Cowboy Street) is right at the heart of the prostitution scene.

The Well, a Christian ministry in Bangkok, helps to get women off the streets by sharing the love and grace of Jesus with them and giving them a fresh start at life. Those who come to The Well’s training centers are given a safe place to live, emotional and spiritual counseling, training in the Word, job skills training, and most of all, unconditional love.
Dan Hennenfant, head of Cup of Cold Water Ministries, the parent ministry that Servantwoks and The Well is under, writes: "I was walking through the streets of Bangkok, Thailand with Servantworks missionary Jim Larson. Cup of Cold Water Ministries and ServantWorks have been partnering since Jim and his family moved to Bangkok in 2004.

We were on our way to the famed Soi Cowboy (Cowboy Street) where prostitution is rampant. Soi Cowboy is the core area of the city that earns Bangkok the dubious title of "Sex Capital of The World." That is where Jim's wife Judy and others minister to the girls who work in the bars and look for "dates."

We had not yet reached Soi Cowboy when we were solicited by a couple of girls who were 'freelancing.' That's when I saw Jesus. He looked like Jim Larson, but I'm sure it was Jesus. He stopped and talked to the girls in their native language and soon we wre hearing their stories.

One girl, Thom, said that this was her first time "working" like this. Her son broke his arm and she needed money, about $200, to pay the bill. We left her a number to call in the morning if she needed help.
Mani, Jim's outreach worker met with Thom the next day, and learned that she was telling the truth. A few evenings later we prayed with Thom.

Now she is one of the "Women of The Well." The bill is paid and she is growing towards Christ. That night I saw Jesus working in Bangkok. ”

To learn more about Servantworks/The Well visit:

Pictured: Jim, second from left with his family

To tell a little bit more about this story. I discovered this ministry back in around 2006 and started contributing to it. I put a post on my blog Go Free Now and a guy named Bill Graver found it. He followed my blog for a while and I followed his blog too when he had one. Then he came into town last February on business. Now Bill is on the board of directors of Servantworks, so The Well is close to his heart. He has also spent considerable time in Thailand with Jim and helped with the ministry. He was interested in the fact that I was interested in the ministry. We had struck up a friendship through blogging. On February 14th, we went on a sort of date.

It was totally fun. God is good.

Jon Stewart on ACORN

This was funny!

Why does it have to be so hard?

If you are struggling right now - to overcome a sin in your life, to overcome addiction, to change anything negative in your life that just doesn't seem to want to change, maybe even a physical disease, you may ask: "Why does it have to be so hard?"

I don't know why, but I know that it is. And only fighters win. You must not give up. You must fight to the bitter end. Your enemy is not giving up and neither should you!

I cannot tell you what I went through after I got a hold of a love for Jesus after I came back to God and decided, "OK, now I am going to get serious with God. Now I am going to read my bible, pray, go to church or be in fellowship with other believers. Now I am going to live my life pleasing to God."

All Hell let loose. Satan came against me as I never imagined he would! I went through the worst battles. It was hard, so hard. But eventually I got a victory over many sin areas, and began to establish the relationships that I had always wanted to with people. I am finally in God's will for my life, heading for doing the things He has called me to do.

Here is some wisdom by one of those TV preachers who you may otherwise discount as a prosperity minister. I kept something he sent me in the mail for free.

He says:

Your battles usually appear suddenly, without forewarning. Your biggest mistakes will usually happen during the first few moments of a satanic attack. Surprise is his strategy. Don't panic. Be still. Stop and listen carefully to the inner voice of the Holy Spirit. Time is your friend. Wait for the answer. Patience is the weapon that forces deception to reveal itself (II Chronicles 20:17).

These Seven Keys Will Help You:

1. VISUALIZE THE RESULTS YOU DESIRE. Abraham had a picture of many generations of children he wanted. Joseph had a dream of himself as a leader and he remembered it. Know God's dream for your life. Get the picture. Big. BIGGER. Fill up your mind, heart and life with it. Now make that vision consume your life...every conversation...every thought...everything around you (Proverbs 29:18).

2. DECIDE TO FIGHT BACK. During the battles of life, you will be tempted to withdraw, become timid and passive. DON'T. Satan is a bully. Bullies delight in shy, timid non-fighters. Real fighters Intimidate satan. Whatever satan confronts you with today, be bold. Fight back. He will flee (James 4:7b).

3. USE THE WEAPONS THAT WORK. Your spiritual weapons are your most powerful weapons in your War against spiritual darkness. These weapons include praying in the Spirit, speaking the name of Jesus and quoting the Word. Jesus did it while being tempted by satan in Matthew 4. Don't forget...satan dreads your discovery of this truth. Remember, nobody else can use these weapons for you (II Corinthians 10:4).

4. REMEMBER THE WEAPON OF PATIENCE. Jesus invested his first 30 years in preparation for His ministry. Moses spent 80 years becoming a great leader. Time is your friend. Don't hurry. Remember - Patience Is The Weapon That Forces Deception To Reveal Itself. (Lamentations 3: 25,26).

5. KEEP THE SPIRIT OF A FINISHER. Anyone can begin a marathon. Champions finish them. Everyone experiences adversity. It is those who stay strong to the finish who are rewarded. Pace yourself. Determine to "go the distance." Keep aflame the Spirit Of A Finisher. (II Timothy 4:7).

7. EXPECT YOUR MIRACLE HARVEST EVERY DAY. Faith is confidence in God. Faith comes when God talks. It may be through a ministry, the Holy Spirit or through His word. Expectation is the invisible current that sweeps miracles into your life. Look for an Uncommon Harvest (Isaiah 65:24).

Mike Murdock

I agree with everything he says except that I think you need to let go of your vision for your life, not be consumed by it, because it is up to God to fulfill your vision, not you. The whole visualizing thing is very new age. It is not because we visualize things that they come true, but because they are God's will for our lives.

I recommend just taking the advice he gives and not throwing out the baby with the bathwater. If you examine the truth about this TV preacher, you will be sorely disappointed.

My Beautiful America!

Someone put together a beautiful slideshow of America's beauty. It reminds me of the year I spent traveling around the United States and camping in various places.

Highlights were: camping in Monterey in late December when it would have been cold in Minnesota, camping in Arizona in January, and camping near Shreveport, Louisiana right after Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005.

Enjoy the slideshow and try to ignore the ad.

Have you heard of Owl City?

It's a young man of 23 named Adam Young from a town just south of Minneapolis - Owatonna, who created his own music in his parent's basement with equipment he purchased for about $4,000. He then proceeded to sell downloads of his music on Myspace, and he made a huge splash. He's now "made it!" He's signing a record deal and will do concerts. He bought a house near his parents.

The thing about him is he's a Christian and he's really sweet. I don't like his music at all, but the lyrics are kind of cool. You can read the story about him here.

Dead Duck Story

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest..

After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away."

The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am sure. The duck is dead," replied the vet.

"How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."

The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room.

He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever.

As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room.

A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.

The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck."

The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$250?" she cried, "$250 just to tell me my duck is dead?"

The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat scan, it's now $250."

Islam on Capitol Hill - it's time to pray!

This was an email from a friend:

September 25, 2009
Islamic Day of Prayer
at the White House

Dear Friends
We received this email today and feel that it is important enough to pass along
to you.

We need to continue to pray for our nation like never before!
In June 2007, Presidential candidate Barack Obama declares the USA no longer a Christian
In 1952 President Truman established one day a year as a National Day of Prayer.
In 1988, President Reagan designated the first Thursday in May of each year as the
National Day of Prayer.
This year however, President Obama, decided to cancel the ceremony at the White
House not wanting to offend anyone.
On September 25, 2009 from 4am until 7pm, a National Day of Prayer for the Muslim
religion will be held on Capitol Hill, beside the White House. As a Christian, it
makes me really wonder where the REAL direction of this country is headed.
Whether you didn't vote for the man or you did, as Christians I would surely hope
that this would stir your spirit. They are expecting over 50,000 muslims that day
in DC.
The website is:
Pay particular attention on the website to the bottom of the page where it states,
2 Chronicles 7:14 says "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves
and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from
heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." becomes more important
each day.
Perhaps all the things going on now in this country and around the world could be
solved if we would heed this scripture.

If you feel that this is an important issue, please feel free to make your friends
and family aware. If not, delete it.
Just a few thoughts to ponder on.
God Bless,

~If this upsets you, we have no one to blame except the Christians who haven't prayed.

~I've heard many complaints about the direction that our country is taking, many
people are upset with President Obama and our government officials, but the truth
is the only people to blame are we Christians who haven't chased hard after our
God. This is a spiritual battle that will become a natural battle if we don't pray.

Me & Si Adventures

This is a blog by a wonderful woman who has been doing missions. Her writing is interesting because she is off in Mexico doing missions and soon will be going to Australia as her next project.

Check her out for some inspiring reading.

Would You Trust This Man...........?

To explain the future? (Look at that face!) He is author Fareed Zakaria - yet another ungrateful liberal who got his fame and fortune in America and is turning around and lambasting the country that gave him everything.

Kind of like this man who is reading his book, "The Post-American World":

The Juggler

The person who sent this says to notice how the man is made in God's image. He juggles in sync with the music. Imagine what he would be able to do in heaven. Imagine what we all will be able to do in heaven.

I know that so much of my talent has been lost to sickness. I will not fully realize all that I was gifted to do until I reach heaven because I have also lost so much time.

We are fearfully and wonderfully made. Thank you Jeff for reminding us of this beautiful truth!

Ghostly Car Ad

This is a car advertisement from Great Britain. When they finished filming the ad, the film editor noticed something moving along the side of the car, like a ghostly white mist. They found out that a person had been killed a year earlier in that exact same spot. The ad was never put on TV because of the unexplained ghostly phenomenon.
Watch the front end of the car as it clears the trees in the middle of the screen and you'll see the white mist crossing in front of the car then following it along the road......Spooky!
Is it a ghost, or is it simply mist? You decide. If you listen to the ad, you'll even hear the cameraman whispering in the background about
it near the end of the commercial.

The Dance

I found the place on my computer where all those videos were being sent.

So now I can post them. Here is the first one.

Now, out of respect for the person who sent this to me let me explain. Here is yet another example of great spirit and resolve to make good out of evil, to make lemonade where there are lemons.

But again, how much greater it would be to see God's power manifest - to see the limbs grow out.

Chutzpah or Cush?

This is an interesting one, sent to me by a reader. It's supposed to be yet another encouraging story about someone who is making lemonade out of lemons, and that is what it is. The only problem with it is that it is about a boy who comes from people of means. Dear friend who sent me this, don't be offended by where I am taking this....

If this boy had been born into an average family with an average or low income, his life would not be so amazing. He would not have the high-tech whatever he has as prosthetics on his legs. He would not have so many varied opportunities to do all those amazing things if he did not have money.

So the amazing thing is the affluence as well as his Chutzpah.
What I'm getting at is when it comes to freak disabilities like this, what I most want to see is God's power and glory.

The most amazing thing would be God growing back the little boy's legs. Yes, it's awesome that the little boy is making the most of his disability, but God's power and glory would be even more amazing, and this is what I most long to see.

For the same boy, born into poverty, God's power would prove an even greater thing, where these artificial aids would not be available. We sometimes forget that here in the West.

Another "awwww' story

These little bunnies, about 6 days old, were attacked by a dog and orphaned. Two out of the litter of five did not survive, and these three were not doing very well.

Noah is a non-releasable, one-legged homing pigeon that we have here in rehab. Noah kept going over to the bunny cage and looking in...even sleeping in front of the door to the cage.

Then, 2 days ago, I only counted 2 bunnies in the cage, so I hurriedly picked Noah up from the front of the cage so I could look inside. And to my surprise...there was the tiny bunny...under Noah's wing...sound asleep! The bunny had crawled through the cage....preferring a featherbed, no doubt.

Now, they are all together, and the bunnies are doing GREAT. When the bunnies scoot underneath Noah's feathers, he extends his wings out to surround them...and they snuggle. When one of them moves and they start sticking out here and there, he gently pushes them back under him with his beak!!!!! This is amazing!!!

'He will cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you will find refuge.'
(Psalm 91:4)

Three Young Tenors

What's amazing about these three tenors is that they are only 14 years old. Listen to the maturity in their voices, and the quality of sound that they have already mastered!

The Church - help or hindrance

Sherri at Matter of Fact posted this today. She asked us to answer these questions about our experience with church and why or why not attend it.

1. I would like to know specifically, how "The church" has been a help and /or hindrance in your life.

This is interesting because it has been both the greatest blessing and the greatest curse in my life. I started out in the church as a preacher's daughter with a doctor Jekyl/Mr Hyde preacher father, who was a smiley preacher on Sunday and an angry, frustrated, sometimes abusive father the rest of the week.

I could not reconcile the difference between what he preached and what he lived. It was a private hell. I grew to hate God. Church people were fools who didn't know the truth about my dad, and perhaps lived secret wicked lives of their own.

Then, in the summer, we would go to a camp where there were these sincere people who preached the word of God, and God's presence was there. At that camp I could feel God's presence and the truth of Christ became real to me, but only briefly, through a window. It was lost to me until I had a crisis at 18 and I gave my life back to Christ. Then I walked with God briefly and then church became a place where one could connect with other believers - true believers. But I also realized the difference between church and going to something "deeper" like a bible study in someone's home, where relationships were closer and people got into God's word.

I realized that was more valuable than going to church and one didn't really need a church building or the trappings of church to have the essential things - fellowship with believers, worship, and God's word being taught. A living room is all you need, and low finance!

I fell away because everyone in my bible study got married and left me out. I felt God didn't really love me because he left me out of this blessing.

I ran to California, I sowed my wild oats. But I would visit church to connect with believers and to connect with God. And always there was something there - the people had something real because I always found good churches that preached the truth.

Then, after I did that and fell in love with a man and the man left me, and I ran into a serious health problem, I came back to Jesus because A) I needed healing and B) I needed God to heal my heart and fill my void.

Since then I have applied myself seriously to being in fellowship and the word of God. I found this awesome church in Canada that was in revival from 1994 until now known as the Toronto blessing, and there experienced a taste of heaven as I have never known. People acted like Jesus!! I received God's love and learned from them how to practice the presence of God and find God's love. I received so much heart healing. It was there that I realized that only Christians really understood love.

2. What characteristics do you consider to be most important in a true Christian?

Transparency - honesty about sin.
Genuine faith

3. What disturbs you the most about Christianity or those who practice it?

Lack of repentance from sin
Underestimating God's power and goodness

4. If you are a Christian, what do you consider to be the most valuable part of your belief?

God Himself!!!!!!

5. If you are not a Christian, what part of Christianity is appealing to you?

6.In what ways do you see Christians acting out as Christ would?

I do know one thing - no one will love you, truly love you like a Christian will. All the love that has gotten me through in life has come from Christians!!!

7. In what ways do you see Christians acting in ways that are not Christ like at all?

I've seen preaching of God's word, making a confession of faith, and then not being interested in people's needs and feelings. I've seen people who attend church and then refuse to work in a soup line or bend down to do anything for the poor and unfortunate. I've seen people who like a form of religion, and churchy things, but don't really like true worship of God, and get impatient with people. I've seen being nice at church only to turn on family members on the way home with impatience and anger. I've seen people who profess faith in Christ but they are just rude and inconsiderate and ungrateful, but I understand now that in all these things they are people who are rebels against God who have not come to repentance.

8. For those of you that attend church services regularly, why do you continue to do so?

I go because I know I can find the sincere people who love God, and because there is nothing like corporate worship!!!!!!

9.For those of you that don't attend church services regularly, why do you not participate?

10.What one word or phrase would you use to describe Jesus?

11.What one word or phrase would you use to describe Christians?

12. What do you think is the greatest misconception about Christianity?

That it's a religion you have to work at. Jesus is a life and a relationship, a way of being.

13. Have you come across a good Christ-like example in your life?

My mother

Pearly Gates Joke

Saint Peter was manning the Pearly Gates when forty people
From Detroit showed up.

Never having seen anyone from the Detroit at heaven's
Door, Saint Peter said he would have to check with God.
After hearing the news, God instructed him to admit the
Ten most virtuous people from the group.

A few minutes later, Saint Peter returned to God breathless
And said, 'They're gone!'

'What? All of the Detroiters are gone?' asked God.

'No!' replied Saint Peter. 'The Pearly Gates!'

Annual Stella Awards

Stella Awards

It's time again for the annual 'Stella Awards'! For
Those unfamiliar with these awards, they are named
After 81-year-old Stella Liebeck who spilled hot
Coffee on herself and successfully sued the McDonald's
In New Mexico where she purchased the coffee. You
Remember, she took the lid off the coffee and put it
Between her knees while she was driving. Who would
Ever think one could get burned doing that, right?
That's right; these are awards for the most outlandish
Lawsuits and verdicts in the U.S. You know, the kinds
Of cases that make you scratch your head. So keep
Your head scratch-ER handy. I don't know about you, but these make me angry!

Here are the Stella's for the past year:

7th PLACE:
Kathleen Robertson of Austin, Texas was awarded
$80,000 by a jury of her peers after breaking her
Ankle tripping over a toddler who was running inside a
Furniture store. The store owners were understandably
Surprised by the verdict, considering the running
Toddler was her own son.
Carl Truman, 19, of Los Angeles, California won
$74,000 plus medical expenses when his neighbor
over his hand with a Honda Accord. Truman
Apparently didn't notice there was someone at
The wheel of the car when he was trying to steal
His neighbor's hubcaps.

Go ahead, grab your head scratch-ER.
Terrence Dickson, of Bristol, Pennsylvania, who was
Leaving a house he had just burglarized by way of
The garage. Unfortunately for Dickson, the automatic
Garage door opener malfunctioned and he could not
Get the garage door to open. Worse, he couldn't
Re-enter the house because the door connecting
The garage to the house locked when Dickson pulled
It shut. Forced to sit for eight, count 'em, EIGHT,
Days on a case of Pepsi and a large bag of dry dog
Food, he sued the Homeowners' insurance company
Claiming undue mental anguish.
Amazingly, the jury said the insurance company must
Pay Dickson $500,000 for his anguish. We should all
Have this kind of anguish.

Keep scratching. There are more...
Jerry Williams, of Little Rock, Arkansas, garnered
4th Place in the Stella's when he was awarded
$14,500 plus medical expenses after being bitten
On the butt by his next door neighbor's beagle -
Even though the Beagle was on a chain in its
Owner's' fenced yard. Williams did not get as much
As he asked for because the jury believed the beagle
Might have been provoked at the time of the butt
Bite because Williams had climbed over the fence
Into the yard and repeatedly shot the dog with a
Pellet gun.
Grrrrr. Scratch, scratch.

Amber Carson of Lancaster , Pennsylvania because
A Jury ordered a Philadelphia restaurant to pay her
$113,500 after she slipped on a spilled soft drink
And broke her tailbone. The reason the soft drink
Was on the floor: Ms. Carson had thrown it at her
Boyfriend 30 seconds earlier during an argument.
What ever happened to people being responsible
For their own actions?
Scratch, scratch, scratch. Hang in there; there
Are only two more Stellas to go...

Kara Walton, of Claymont, Delaware sued the owner
Of a night club in a nearby city because she fell from
The bathroom window to the floor, knocking out her
Two front teeth. Even though Ms. Walton was trying
To sneak through the ladies room window to avoid
Paying the $3.50 cover charge, the jury said the
Night club had to pay her $12,000....oh, yeah, plus
Dental expenses. Go figure.
(May I have a fanfare played on 50 kazoos please)
This year's runaway First Place Stella Award winner
Was Mrs. Merv Grazinski, of Oklahoma City , Oklahoma ,
Who purchased a new 32-foot Winnebago motor
Home. On her first trip home, from an OU football
Game, having driven on to the freeway, she set the
Cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the driver's
Seat to go to the back of the Winnebago to make
Herself a sandwich.
Not surprisingly, the motor home left the freeway,
Crashed and overturned. Also not surprisingly,
Mrs. Grazinski sued Winnebago for not putting in the
Owner's' manual that she couldn't actually leave the
Driver's' seat while the cruise control was set. The
Oklahoma jury awarded her, are you sitting down,
$1,750,000 PLUS a new motor home. Winnebago
Actually changed their manuals as a result of this
Suit, just in case Mrs. Grazinski has any relatives
Who might also buy a motor home.
Are we, as a society, getting more stupid...?
Ya Think??!!
More than a few of our judge's elevators don't go
To the top floor either!
