Seinfeld's Halloween animated

Jerry Seinfeld on Halloween

Hallowed Evening?

Michael Medved supposedly is against Halloween celebration because ihe thinks it's evil (good for him) while this writer, a pastor is against thinking of Halloween as evil. As my sister says, it's a holiday for kids to dress up in costumes and go out and get candy door to door - obviously it's got to be something good for kids, right? Jerry Seinfeld does a hoot of a sketch on Halloween telling why kids think it's so great.

My cousin, a doctor, now retired due to heart problems, hates Halloween because of his brushes with the occult and Satanism. He was dating a woman who was married to a fellow doctor who killed himself. It was discovered posthumously that he had been involved in a Satanic cult and had involved their son in it. The son related to her and my cousin (who dated her after her husband's death) the details of the cult's practices. It was clear that it was Satanism. I imagine Halloween was particularly gruesome.

The cult started to go after my cousin just because of his involvement with the woman and her son. It was a bizarre chapter in his life. People don't really believe his story, but I do.

I see my cousin's point, why he hates Halloween.

Feeling Depressed?

I was feeling a bit depressed the other day, so I called the Help Hotline.

I was put through to a 'call center' in Pakistan.

I explained that I was feeling suicidal.

They were very excited at this news and wanted to know if I could drive a truck or fly an airplane....

(this is a joke sent from my sister in Germany)

Is Jesus the only way of salvation?

What does the Bible say? (more of Walter G. Johnson's sermon)

Acts 4:12
"And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."

John 14:6
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me."

1 Timothy 2:5
For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

Philippians 2:9-11
For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

I have often been asked, "What will happen then to all of those people around the world who believe in a god but don't believe in Jesus?"

All I can say is that I am not God and that is not my decision. However, the Bible is very clear to me when it says in John 3:17,18
"For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him."He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

What I do know then, is that God the Father has revealed Himself and His plan of salvation in His Holy Word and revealed it in His only begotten Son Jesus Christ.

I urge every person who has accepted this revealed Jesus as Lord to give thanks for God's moving in your life and share it with others.

I urge every person who has not accepted this revealed Jesus as Lord to accept Him this morning. Amen!!

Wow! Now there's a pastor preaching the truth!

Is God active in individual lives today?

I believe there are many of you who could attest to God's intervention in your lives or the life of somebody you know.

There are many who believe the world is so big and complicated that there is no way that God could be active in the lives of each of his creatures here on this earth.

And besides that, even if He could, he would not be interested in all the little things that go on in each of our lives day after day.

Nor would God interfere in our lives, they say.

God has not created his universe just to watch it wind down without any attention given to it.

He continues to be involved.

Colossians 1:17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

Why would we pray, why would we ask for God's intervention, if He is not interested in our lives? Again, the answer to this question is in Jesus Christ.

Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst."

Matthew 28:20 "...lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world."

God is still active in individual lives today.

Is God a real person?

The question is probably as old as time itself.

When the Apostle Paul was doing missionary work in Athens, Greece he ran into that problem.

Acts 17:22
So Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, "Men of Athens, I observe that you are very religious in all respects.
23"For while I was passing through and examining the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription, 'TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.' Therefore what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you.

King David seemed to be having his own problem in:

Psalms 27:7 Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice, And be gracious to me and answer me.
8 When You said, "Seek My face," my heart said to You, "Your face, O LORD, I shall seek."

John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word (Jesus) was with God, and the Word (Jesus) was God.

John 1:14 And the Word (Jesus) became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.

So if you want to know if God is real, then you get your answer from Jesus Christ Who came to earth from God, the Father, and returned to Him.

From Pastor Walter G. Johnson of Shakopee, Minnesota

Did all of the Bible come from God or is some of it the invention of human writers?

(From Pastor Johnson's sermon)
If there is absolute moral truth then it has to come from God himself.

And that means that all of the Bible has to come from God himself.

Thousands upon thousands of so-called Christians believe that a good part of the bible is the invention of human writers.

Dr. Martin Luther says in his large catechism: "We know that God does not lie. I and my neighbor, in fact, all men, may err and deceive, but the Word of God cannot lie."

2 Peter 1: 20 (New American Standard) But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation,
21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God

2 Timothy 3: 16, 4: 3,4 All Scripture is inspired by God...For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

Don't Take The Truth For Granted, Cont.

I got the sermon notes from Sunday's sermon. The pastor, Walter G. Johnson, who gave the sermon is in his 80s and sharp as a tack. Here is an excerpt:

As many of you know, Josh McDowell is a prolific Christian author and lecturer on family and youth topics.

I quote him from a current publication of his:

"Our churched young people are adopting distorted beliefs about God, Christ and His Word, and these beliefs are directly attributing to our kids making wrong moral choices."

Let me share 4 statistics from him which should surprise you if not shock you.

"70% of our churched youth don't believe that there is an absolute moral truth.

58% of our churched youth believe all faiths teach equally valid truths.

63% of our churched youth don't believe Jesus is the Son of the one true God.

68% of our churched youth don't believe that the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, is a real entity."

I don't know what kinds of churches those churched youth attend but I can tell you one thing, they clearly don't know their Bibles.

A long time ago we quit asking, "Is the world round or flat?"

A long time ago we quit asking, "Can man fly?"

A long time ago we quit asking, "Do you suppose we will ever put a man on the moon?"

It is obvious that other kinds of questions continue to be asked. Many of those persistent questions deal with God. And according to Josh McDowell, an awful lot of youth as well as adults come up with wrong answers to those questions.

This morning I want to address just a few of those persistent questions about God.

These facts, apparently gathered through polling, are staggering. As I said in my other post, I tend to take for granted the truth that I have been given.

I also don't know what to think about these statistics because you also hear statistics about the large numbers who believe in the biblical stories and in the resurrection.

Axis Of Evil, Or Hitler or Something

Look, his head is about to explode and change into a grotesque shape. He's Satan!
I can't believe I've been deceived into thinking Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was something more innocuous than he is, which is another one of the Hitlers out there of our day.

He hates the Jews and US as a result. He hates the Jews and US because he hates God and the freedom of choice that we represent. He parades as an angel of light calling us evil and says he wants to rid the world of us to usher in the kind of world he wants. But he looks pretty OK. He looks fairly refined and good looking and he has come across as being sort of friendly towards the U.S.

In Joel Rosenberg's new book Epicenter, Ahmadinejad's ideas and agenda are stated clearly in no uncertain terms in the introduction.

The book says:

The man Iranians elected to be their president in the summer of 2005 was Mahmoud Amahdinejad, who until then had been the mayor of Tehran. Few outside the capital city knew much about him at the time. Even those inside may not have fully appreciated what they were getting themselves into. But with each passing day, the picture became clearer-and more troubling.

Upon taking office, Ahmadinejad undertook a series of moves that sent shock waves through world capitals, rattled global markets, and drove up the international price of oil. He told associates that he believed the end of the world was just two or three years away. He said he believed he had been chosen by Allah to become Iran's leader at this critical hour to hasten the coming of the Islamic messiah known as the Twelfth Imam or the Mahdi by launching a final holy war against Christians and Jews. He publicly vowed to annihilate the United States. He vowed to wipe Israel "off the map." He also dramatically accelerated Iran's effort to build, buy, or steal the nuclear weapons necessary to bring about the end of days in accordance with his Shiite Muslim theology.

skipping a part in between...

Ahmadinejad gave a speech in Tehran in which he further clarified his objectives. "Is it possible for us to witness a world without America and Zionism?" he asked a gathering of terrorist leaders from such groups as Hamas and Islamic Jihad. "You had best know that this slogan and this goal are attainable, and surely can be achieved." He then urged Muslims around the world to prepare for the day when "our holy hatred expands" and "strikes like a wave."

Six months later, Ahmadinejad upped the ante yet again, declaring in a nationally televised address that Iran had successfully enriched uranium and joined the "nuclear club," leading a number of Western Intelligence agencies and experts to predict that Iran could have operational nuclear weapons in the next two or three years-just in time for the Bush administration to leave office and, presumably, for the end of the world to begin.

And liberals nonchalantly invite him to speak at Columbus University - a demagogue! When will we wake up?

Don't Take The Truth For Granted

I went with my folks to a little church where my dad served briefly as an interim pastor during his career. The pastor gave a sermon in which he related some statistics he got from Josh McDowell's ("Evidence That Demands A Verdict") site. I don't have the statistics, but it's some staggering statistics about churched, not un-churched youth in America, who don't believe that Jesus is the son of God, and that He is the only way to God, or that the bible is the true word of God and that their belief (or lack of belief) lead to lack of morals.

It made me realize how I take for granted the truth that I have been given, the truth that my parents brought me up in and the truth that I am constantly surrounded by as I always find churches that preach the truth and I always find Christians in places such as on the internet (!) who believe and preach the truth.

I didn't realize how many churches out there preach lies, or leave out the facts, like Joel Osteen's church.

A Look 'To Die For'

Body Piercing Gone Awry - 'Fashion' To Die For...

By John Reinan HealthScout Reporter
Whole story here

Red Sonia wanted a look to die for -- and she got it.

Sonia, whose real name was Lesley Hovvels, once appeared on British television to show off her more than 100 body piercings.

But the 39-year-old Welsh woman died earlier this year of a massive infection caused by her failure to properly care for the dozens of piercings in her nose, ears, lips and other body parts.

It's an extreme case. But doctors warn that recent medical journals have chronicled hundreds of cases of injury, infection and even death caused by piercings gone bad.

"In many cases, it's safe to say, the guy who cuts your hair has more training than the guy who pierces you," says Dr. Shari Welch, an emergency room physician at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.

"It's pretty scary stuff," says Welch, who recently saw a 19-year-old woman nearly suffocate because emergency room doctors had trouble getting a breathing tube past the piercings on her tongue.

In another incident, a 19-year-old man's urethra was "shredded," Welch says, after a car accident that ripped loose a small ring from his penis.

Body Piercing Killing kids

From a blog called "The Other Cheek"

A little outside the OC's normal jurisdiction is this important story from the United States about a young woman who made the mistake of getting hippy body piercing done.

As a result Stephanie Edington has lost a breast and very nearly lost her life. Too many young people have died from complications of body piercing.

She is just the latest victim of hippy body piercing, and now has to live with her decision for the rest of her life. Experts warn that piercing may cause blood poisoning, serious infections and even HIV. Even upper ear piercing has caused serious and long lasting infections which left victims "cosmetically deformed.

I can believe this is serious enough to cause death. I have pierced ears - one hole in each ear, and here I am maybe 35 years or more after I had them pierced and I still get little infections in my simple two-hole piercings. The lobes will swell up if the holes grow over and then I pierce them again with wearing earrings, or if I wear earrings that aren't 100% sterling, or are a little rusty. Can you imagine the problem if you have numerous piercings?"

Cornerstones Of Conviction

Bill Johnson, Bethel Church, Redding, CA

Nuggets of wisdom from the charismatic healing conference coming from Bill:

1. God is ALWAYS good
2. Nothing is impossible
3. We war from a victory already won
4. I am significant!

Additional insights: He is not in me as a lake but as a river. God's gifts in me are to be flowing out to others.

God doesn't entertain us with breakthroughs. He gave them to us as keys to give us legal ground. Bill used the scripture that says wherever your foot treads, that ground belongs to you (paraphrased.) Once you have gained an insight, a victory, a revelation, it is yours to retrieve once again. God gave you the keys to go back and retrieve it, like the wells of salvation that we can draw from any time.

For Lea...

Just to let you know I don't think I will be going to the movie Into The Wild and why. I see it playing at our local "artsy" theater, a theater known for films that just go beyond the boundaries of what a person can stomach sometimes, and that it's an "R" rated film and that it's by Sean Penn. That tells me a lot. Penn has starred in a lot of B grade films with a lot of violence and I don't anticipate a lot of good from him. An R rating on a film with the kind of content that the book had promises some heavy subject matter that I anticipate to be depressing. I actually only read a third of the book and didn't want to continue because the protagonist bothered me. He is not a person whose mind I want to explore. I anticipate that seeing his story in film is going to have an even greater impact than the book, which left me feeling uncomfortable.

I contemplated going to the film last night but thought, "nah!" Just thought you should know.

Joel Osteen

60 Minutes did coverage of Joel Osteen's ministry last night, and they even asked pertinent questions that evangelicals would ask. I was surprised. They asked why, in his recent book, he doesn't even mention God or Jesus, yet he is supposed to be a pastor.

They interviewed a pastor who makes it clear that Osteen preaches about bettering oneself and doesn't focus on God, the focal point of the Christian life. To make it about ourselves is heresy.

I've seen Osteen interviewed on Larry King where he was asked about his beliefs about Hell. He said he can't judge whether or not people are going to Hell and it's not for him to say that they need to repent. He doesn't preach repentance from sin!

Clearly he has gone astray from the basic biblical teachings of his father who was also a pastor in the Houston area.

This writer is disturbed about what is false about Osteen. Here is an excerpt:

The latest "star" among the Christian world is Joel Osteen, pastor of nondenominational Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. Osteen claims the nation’s largest congregation with over 30,000 members. Lakewood recently purchased the colossal Compaq Center, formerly home of the NBA’s Houston Rockets. After a whopping $95 million in renovations, the Compaq Center now houses Osteen’s empire called Lakewood Church. Osteen continually sells out huge arenas (at $10 a ticket) across the country. (on ebay Osteen’s tickets list for over $100—can you say $ch-ching$?) New York Times (July 18, 2005) reports Lakewood’s 2004 revenue’s of $55 million. Osteen’s book of human-potential, self-esteem, "feel good," self-help-guide titled, Your Best Life Now: Seven Steps to Living at Your Full Potential, ranks number one on the prestigious "New York Times" best-seller list. writes of Osteen’s enormous popularity, "In the world of religion, he’s achieved the status of a rock star. . ." Clearly, Mr. Osteen wears the coveted crown prince of the Christian kingdom.

I wasn't aware of what a false prophet he is. Look at the title of his book: Your Best Life Now: Seven Steps to Living at Your Full Potential. It's not the gospel! The problem is what he has done with the crucified life.

This has disturbed me a lot lately, since I had a discussion with someone who believes that everyone gets saved. Ben Worley ( did a post on his blog about this (and I can't find it). There are a lot of people who don't want to go to the cross, or through the cross. They don't want to have to repent. Unfortunately for them, there is no salvation without repentance.

They want to believe that there is nothing a person has to do in response to God in order to be saved. You have to ignore a lot of what Jesus said to believe this. Look at Luke 13:3 - "unless you repent you will all likewise perish." That's only one of the verses.

He's got all that money, and the easy life that he has (he charges people money to get in to his services apparently!), but I shudder to think of judgment day for him! He's leading so many people astray! He has America's largest church, supposedly. I only know from having listened to him that he's not about Jesus. He doesn't draw me to Jesus. There is nothing of Jesus there to draw me to. People are drawn to Joel. He's good looking, successful, can bench press 300 pounds they said on 60 minutes. Amazing how people are drawn to lies.

I would be so wary of drawing huge crowds. His church used to be the Compaq center in Houston. That's a lot of people. I would wonder what was drawing people to me. If it wasn't God I'd be truly scared.

Another one of his sayings is: "discover the champion in you." "He teaches the power of positivity," says ABC News. He has been named "the most influential Christian in America" by Scary! Joel Osteen is not the kind of Christian we want to be influencing people in America. It's time to pray and pray hard!

God Rocks!

Or how I got a major jolt out of depression...!

I went to the charismatic healing conference at Redeeming Love Church here in the Twin Cities. It's located in Maplewood at 2425 White Bear Ave, right off hiway 36. The speaker was Randy Clark who God used to start the revival in Toronto. I was wallowing in unbelief but his message was good, and a team of prophetic people got up at the end and spoke words of knowledge about people getting healed of certain things. One person called out depression. I felt God touching my brain.

When Randy asked if anyone had been healed of anything and if it was something they'd had a long time, he told them to come forward. I went up and told about the depression and said it had been 30-some years. He, being prophetic, said he had been used to heal someone who had schizophrenia (apparently aware that I was about more than just depression.) I nodded and he laid a gentle hand on my head for healing. He then told me to turn and be used to heal others. A line of people was waiting to be ministered to.

I got to be a minister that night. I prayed for mainly women. They mainly had trouble with depression. Although I've had trouble with more than depression, it was the depression that I was concerned about that night, as it drains and drains.

We focused on the verse in Isaiah that talks about putting on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.

I was so excited about being used to minister to people. The next day, thanks to my mother, I got to go to an inner city outreach to the poor that she has been working at through her church for years to bring sandwiches and serve food and help share a message and some music. After the service a lady who is bi-polar asked for ministry and again I was called on to minister.

Partly because of the hope that all this has given, I am not so depressed as I was, but I also believe God has touched me.

X and Y Chromosomes

You may see a connection between this post and the last one: thinking about sex determination and Owen Wilson. But I was wondering what determines male or female. Do you remember?

Answer: Human females contain two X chromosomes, and males contain one X and one Y
chromosome. In the absence of a Y chromosome, a human fetus will develop as a female.
This indicates that a gene or genes on the Y chromosome determines "maleness". Several
genes that are required for male development have been located on the Y chromosome, but
as far as I know, the "master" gene has not yet been identified.

Owen Wilson

There's a guy sitting in the coffee shop who looks a lot like Owen Wilson, directing my thoughts towards his recent suicide attempt. I was surprised to hear of this, but then think of how dumb it is to think that he would be immune just because of his fame and fortune.

He may have a chemical depression problem and is a reminder that money and fame don't insulate a person from life's hard blows. He has the advantage that lots of people can pray for him.

Three Forks, Montana

This town is located on Interstate 90, the main highway that stretches across Montana, that takes you clear across the state, and is situated between Bozeman and Butte. It is historically significant because it is where Lewis and Clark landed in 1805 on their expedition on July 27th. I happened to land there on July 27th-200 years later in 2005.

The three forks are the three branches of rivers that come together there. The men were moving upstream the entire way from Missouri by the Missouri river until they reached Three Forks, and the branches prevented them from continuing. From there they had to portage across mountains to reach the Pacific Northwest and another river that would take them south to the Pacific.

I was pitching my tent in a campground right outside of Three Forks, MT and found a friendly couple with three kids parking their RV in the campsite next to mine. We became instant friends mainly because the husband was so gregarious, and soon discovered that we had wandered into the same place where a reenactment was taking place the next day by the historical society. They had organized some men who were taking the same route that Lewis and Clark had taken. A descendant of Clark was also doing a reenactment with a few men, staying true to the details of the clothing and all equipment used in the period.

The couple was really fun. The husband was a riot - a half Jewish man who loved to have beer and bread dipped in olive oil over a campfire at night. We roared with laughter by the campfire. They really loved their kids.

The next day I went for a swim in the river. I found the descendant of Clark with his men on the other side of the river and made some joke about how men of the period would respond to a woman bathing in the river. They responded with the appropriate restraint for the men they were portraying. I then joined the couple and their kids who went to join the festivities arranged by the historical society's reenactment group.

Me and the couple and their kids then moved to a new campground, after taking a route through the country and stopping at a country spot that someone told us about for a great dinner. The campground was near some caves that were interesting to see though I didn't go see the caves. The caves were along a route to the historical Virginia City, a ghost town and tourist attraction.

At the campground, the historical group was doing a presentation including food and beverages at one of the covered picnic areas. They talked about the wild animals that still inhabit the area including bobcats. They had skins from the animals.

The men were dressed authentically according to how the men had been dressed at the time when they arrived in the area. Because their western clothing had worn out on them, they now wore clothing the native Americans had helped them put together. They received much help from the natives. I have photos of the men, but they are in a tiff format and blogger won't publish them.

Of course, Sacajawea traveled with them in real life, the Native American woman who was married to the Frenchman who was on the expedition, but they had no woman traveling in the reenactment.

The next two nights, we laughed and laughed again around the campfire. There was a rather feisty man who was rather mean to us who managed the camp, but I felt he must be just jealous of us as he heard us out there enjoying ourselves to the hilt. We were so loud.

It was very dry, so dry that I couldn't keep my tent pitched in the dirt because the winds were also strong and would come and blow it away. So, I had to pull up my tent and all my belongings for the day, go and do sightseeing and return at night to pitch my tent again. We had done that on our first day there, and all went well. I returned to find the couple at the site and I pitched my tent again and hung out with them. But the day after that, they were getting restless and needed to continue on their trip West to see more. I had pulled up all my things and gone for the day sightseeing. I returned expecting to find the couple but they were gone, leaving only a note underneath something that I had left behind at the site, saying that they were continuing on to a campground nearby and if I wanted to join them I could. By the time I got there it was too late for me to go join them.

I was taken aback. The hollow of being left alone after all the fun of being with the couple was overwhelming. It was the first time I felt alone while traveling. Otherwise I had peace having my two cats and communing with God along with meeting people as I went from place to place.

I thought back to things that were said. I had heard the couple making love in the RV on the first night in the caves campground and the next day I made some jokes about it indirectly. I asked them what they do when they want to make love and if they just go ahead and do it with their kids in the RV. They said "yes" and I reacted to it as sort of strange. I wondered if I had been making them feel uncomfortable.

Because the husband was half Jewish, I later sent him my essay by e-mail on why I extol the Jew. Then I think I discarded his business card. I regretted losing that card later. I only was careless because, as I told them, since they were so brazen about just up and disappearing, I didn't know if I trusted them. In retrospect I think I over-reacted. Besides, they didn't know Christ, not that I know of. But they were sweet people.

Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer
Wild experience reading about a young man (read summary here) who drifted around the country after burning his cash and giving away all his money, only to end up dying of starvation in Alaska. Now a movie that I want to see also.

It is interesting how you can live in the American wilderness and how you can be-bop around the country just in a survival mode. I have had a slight taste of his lifestyle, having traveled around the country for a year, camping out in Montana for a summer, and the like. But it's not the same. For one, I was traveling from my house and returning to my house. I didn't stay on the road.

I didn't live on no money. I was living on credit that I was going to pay back with the sale of my home. I had a plan. And I wasn't living on the streets. And I was looking for something, but not lost. I was seeking America in revival. I was seeking American small towns and to be in the outdoors. I think he was looking for something and lost. But I can relate to him and his exhilaration in traveling and being free. Also, there's something to be said for his rugged survival methods.

But he wasn't well. Ultimately he couldn't even take care of himself, he couldn't even help himself eat. He cut himself off from people. I was reaching out to people, even while enjoying the peace of nature and small towns.

Most importantly, I took a shower every day. He was teased by co-workers when he briefly worked at a McDonalds for having body odor from not bathing.

But God directed my steps. I did find people who loved God. I was not disappointed. And I think, "oh that I had an account of my journey around America as detailed as this book by Jon Krakauer." It would be so interesting. I don't know if I can write everything that I remember.

Krakauer writes this story in such detail, it's amazing. Why does such a nut and such a lost soul who is not very inspiring get so much written about him? I guess we can learn something from his story about human nature, about the impetuous nature of youth. We can identify our own weaknesses and pitfalls when we see him fall headlong into his own demise. But I could only read a third of the book. It is too depressing to go any further.

More than anything, it re-ignites my awareness of the lost in our country - young souls who do not have a clue about where to turn, or who to turn to for fulfillment.

I said, "Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.Behold, I would wander far away, I would lodge in the wilderness. Selah. I would hasten to my place of refuge From the stormy wind and tempest." Psalm 55: 7-9 New American Standard

This heart cry of David's, ancient and universal, depicts what motivated the character in the book and what motivated me to travel. Many can relate to this. Into The Wild proves that merely a desire for the wilderness can lead a person to destruction without the wisdom that divine guidance can offer. Ultimately I find myself living in the city again, not because I love the city, but because divine guidance says that the wilderness cannot provide a perfect answer.

Update On My Company

Thanks for the prayers. Someone is praying because since that post some amazing things have happened where I work. All of a sudden the company got rid of some unproductive workers and up and hired some young folks from a bible school connected to the church my parents go to. Even though it's sort of a dry, Lutheran sect, these young ones are really about renewal and are very refreshing, and bring conversations about their faith, plus original music that they play on the CD player that is about their faith in Jesus. They certainly offer encouragement.

This has helped to believe that God is offering His mercy and help to the company as well, and to believe for improvement all around to the way business is done. Even though certain business practices remain the same, this has helped.

The company was moved to a new location as well, as their old location was bought out by another company that needed the entire block. The other company paid for their new location and all renovations. This also is a sign of God's mercy.

With the new offices and new employees, the atmosphere is much better.

Great Cat Photo

This cat is named "Cowboy" I was searching on the net for cowboy material for a school project and came up with this instead.

Amazing Christians!

I have a small magazine that my parents receive. It is just one of the updates that come in the mail of missionaries to foreign lands through one of the many organizations that commission God's people. It is small, Lutheran and hardly known. The people they talk about are amazing and do amazing things in the work of the kingdom. Unsung heroes! It talks about a "Field Developer Couple" John and Betsy Gronseth, who will go to Beijing, China for a year of language study. They will then go to Xinyang and take long term on-site responsibilities. At this point two possibilities appear foremost: take responsibility for a high school class composed of poor rural students, or initiate a Community Library with the local inhabitants in a variety of subjects.

Already they have raised 5 children and served 10 years in Indonesia with Wycliffe Bible translators. In Indonesia, the husband John served as a pilot providing transportation into remote jungle villages, and his wife Betsy served as a nurse and was involved in ministries to the local children.

Shortly after returning to the states they made the decision to stay in the US to help their oldest child, Katie, who had just graduated from high school in Indonesia and had started college in Wheaton, IL to acclimate to college life. They settled in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to be nearer to Katie and also to be closer to their parents and other extended family members who were living in St Paul and Chicago.

After that they had a stirring in their hearts drawing them back to missions.

The article tells more about them, but let me just interject by saying that I am inspired and humbled by hearing about Christians who live so heartily for the Lord by faith, especially when I live day to day a kind of survival story. I'm glad there are those who are able to carry the gospel with such passion.
